The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.

Position: Tractor Operator (1 Post)
Reports to: Human Resource & Administrative Officer
Salary Grade: UR 7
Age Limit: Not more than 50 years

Job Purpose: To drive institute tractor that are in clean and sound mechanical  condition.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Applicants should possess Uganda Certificate of Education (“O” Level) with at least four passes.
  2. Possess a valid driving Permit with Class G, without any endorsements.
  3. Holding driving permit class D or D1 will be added advantage.
  4. Applicants should have a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience driving cars, /or vans machinery.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Undertake routine and preventive maintenance of tractor by checking and topping-up the level of fuel, oil, water, battery electrodes and tyre pressure before operating the tractor
  2. Inspect the tractor oil, hydraulic lines and other components, some of which are located underneath. Regularly clean the tractor and its implements, changing tyres as well as making minor repairs or adjustments and calibrations
  3. Operate tractor and trailer to transport farm products, livestock and materials to specified locations. Dismount and mount the tractor frequently to adjust implements and inspect its fluids and other components.
  4. Attach tractor implements weighing up to 100 pounds, such as graders, plough, discs and backhoes. Operating tractor and implements to plough and furrow agricultural land for precision planting of seed crops
  5. Load and offload farm products, livestock and other material supplies with due regard to environmental safety
  6. Maintain records of the tractors daily activity showing journey, mileage, fuel, oil and signature of authorising officer to account for all the journeys made.
  7. Observe traffic and safety precautions in order to prevent accidents and to avoid traffic violations. In addition, undertakes first aid in case of injuries.
  8. Report tractor accident to the traffic police, Estate Maintenance Officer and the Farm Manager, obtaining police abstract report and completing insurance accident report form in conformance to traffic rules and regulations.
  9. Requisition for fuel, lubricants and spare parts and maintain a record accounting for the same.
  10. Take the tractor for major service or repairs in accordance to planned preventive maintenance schedule or insurance accident report.
