About Organisation:

PEAS is an international education not-for-profit organisation with the mission to ‘expand access to sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa’. Since 2008, PEAS has built and operated high quality low-cost not-for-profit secondary schools in close partnership with government in communities where there is urgent unmet demand for secondary education. We currently run 28 secondary schools in Uganda and 4 in Zambia serving over 15,000 students.

 

Job Summary:   As a PEAS Deputy Headteacher, you will provide strategic leadership and professional management for the school. To ensure success and drive improvement in your PEAS school, you will ensure that high quality education and personalized learning is delivered to all its students and drive high standards and achievement in all areas of the school’s work.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Outreach

  • Works with the Headteacher to develop and execute outreach plans to increase student enrolment and student populations in PEAS school.
  • Develops and implements strategies to promote PEAS School’s mission to both the internal constituencies of the school and the community at large.

Education Management

  • To drive high performance expectations for PEAS students and for teachers to be effective and innovative.
  • Promote an atmosphere of care and trust amongst PEAS staff, setting the tone for
  • respectful interaction with students and demonstrating a willingness to change practices in the light of new understandings.
  • Works with the Headteacher to establish/sustain school structure that promotes participation decision making, supporting delegation and distributive leadership.
  • Facilitates opportunities for staff to learn from each other and models continual learning in his or her own practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for all Education Targets and SIP reports to the SSSO.
  • Performance management and assessment of teaching staff. Complete all necessary PEAS. schools’ performance evaluation processes.
  • Oversee regular lesson observations of teaching staff.
  • Take responsibility for induction program for new staff members.
  • On behalf of the headteacher, act as a primary point of contact for MoES, UNEB and in conjunction with the SSSO, work with the Board of Governors and PTA for the best interests of the students.

Leadership

  • Leading teachers towards the achievement of commonly agreed goals and performance targets.
  • Ensuring that the school follows all applicable government regulations

Finance Management

  • Jointly accountable for school budget and expenditure budget with the Head teacher.
  • Co-sign all school accounts together with the Head teacher.
  • Accountable for all school management financial USE reports and data as specified from time to time by the Headteacher.
  • Collates and prioritizes departmental resource requirements Governance
  • Works with the PEAS Country office, Board of Governor, Parents – Teachers Association and the SSSO to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive school goals.
  • Assists the Head teacher with recommending and researching potential new members teaching and non-teaching staff.

Contribution to the School Network

  • Establishes new links with external partners, and build upon existing relationships, in order to promote PEAS schools model experience.
  • Participates in the induction and orientation of new members in the PEAS ethics and culture.
  • Provision of early leadership experiences for school management teams. Takes initiative. to share learnings and good practices with new PEAS school management teams.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education from a recognized University/Institution
  • Registered as a Graduate Teacher with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ teaching experience in a Secondary School, three (3) of which should be at the level of a substantive Deputy Headteacher or any Leadership role.
