NIC General Insurance Company Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of NIC Holdings Limited (NIC). NIC General Insurance Company Limited was incorporated on 3rd March, 2014 and took over the general insurance businesses of NIC in compliance with the legal requirement for separation of insurance businesses under the Insurance (Amendment) Act.

Job Summary: The Unit Manager is responsible for recruiting, developing, coaching, and managing a team of insurance agents to achieve agreed sales, productivity, and business retention targets. The role focuses on driving sustainable business growth through effective leadership, field supervision, performance management, sales strategy execution, and continuous capacity building of the sales team while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and Obligations

  • You will be required to do the following
  • Recruit, train, motivate a unit comprising of a minimum of 15 active Agents.
  • Achieve set unit production, productivity and persistency targets.
  • Manage activities and conduct field supervision of the sales team.
  • Hold weekly Team Meetings and daily hurdles to help track and monitor activities.
  • Continually identify the training needs of your sales team and arrange for relevant training.
  • Submit progress reports on a weekly basis.
  • Obtain a license from the Insurance Regulatory Authority authorizing you to work as an insurance Agent. The company will assist you with the process.
  • Enroll, sit and pass COP exams within the time stipulated by the IRA.
  • Ensure persistence of business brought in by team members.
  • Formulate and implement good sales strategies.
  • Observe and comply with the Company Code of Ethics, all laws, regulations, standards and policies of the Company.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor

A successful Unit Manager will be measured on:

  • Number of active agents recruited and retained.
  • Unit premium production.
  • Number of policies sold.
  • Agent productivity ratios.
  • Persistency and retention rates.
  • Training and development activities conducted.
  • Compliance and quality of business.
  • Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual targets

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Insurance, Finance, Economics, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • A Diploma in any relevant field with proven sales management experience is an added advantage.
  • Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Insurance or willingness to obtain it within the stipulated period.
  • Registration and licensing with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) as an Insurance Agent.
  • Additional qualifications in sales management, leadership, insurance, or financial services will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in sales, Insurance, marketing, business development, or financial services.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading, supervising, or mentoring a sales team is an added advantage.
  • Experience in life insurance, banking, microfinance, SACCOs, telecommunications, FMCG, or direct sales environments will be highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, motivate, and manage a sales team.
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.
