Job title: Employee Engagement Officer.
Work Location: Hariss International Limited – Kampala, Uganda
Division / Department: Human Resource
Reports to: Human Resource Director
Purpose of the Role:
To design, implement, and monitor employee engagement initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction, motivation, and retention, while fostering a positive and productive workplace culture aligned with the organization’s values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Employee Engagement Strategy
- Support the development and execution of the employee engagement strategy.
- Drive initiatives that promote a strong organizational culture and employee experience.
- Align engagement programs with business objectives and HR strategy.
- Develop and report to HR Director on, KPIs and appropriate external benchmarks for effective employee engagement.
2. Surveys & Feedback
- Coordinate employee engagement surveys (e.g., annual surveys, pulse surveys).
- Analyze survey data and prepare reports with actionable insights.
- Track and follow up on action plans arising from feedback.
3. Communication & Employee Experience
- Support internal communication initiatives to improve transparency and engagement.
- Develop content for employee newsletters, intranet, and engagement campaigns.
- Promote company values, culture, and employer brand internally.
- Create, engage and maintain up-to-date content, branding, and communication on HR related matters i.e. town hall, Health and well-being, Long service Awards and Recognitions, Monthly birthdays.
4. Employee Programs & Activities
- Plan and execute employee engagement activities (e.g., wellness programs, team-building events, recognition programs).
- Coordinate key events such as town halls, staff forums, and celebrations.
- Manage employee recognition and reward programs.
- Coordinate and organize all HR events and all HR activities as indicated in the HR activity calendar.
5. Employee Relations Support
- Act as a point of contact for employee concerns and engagement-related matters.
- Support initiatives that enhance employee well-being and work-life balance.
- Collaborate with HR Business Partners on engagement-related interventions.
- Ensure appropriate look and feel of all office spaces especially ensuring that each office and meeting rooms have the appropriate furniture.
6. Data & Reporting
- Track engagement KPIs such as participation rates, retention, and satisfaction levels.
- Prepare periodic engagement reports for management.
- Recommend improvements based on data insights.
- Assist HRBPs in communicating ‘people’ policies and new initiatives, to ensure they are effectively communicated at the time and on an ongoing basis as appropriate.
7. Expatriate Employees management
- Monitor expats off boarding in terms of exit clearance form completion and work permit cancellations.
- Ticketing and transportation- Book employees’ tickets, transportation and leave plan design and adherence.
- Coordinate work permit/ Visa processing and keep records.
8. Budgeting and cost Management
- Ensure budgets (Business travel, Annual leave travel and Employee engagement HR budgets are properly done and monitored on an ongoing basis to avoid overspend.
- Handle all purchase requests and reservations on SAP and follow up on payments.
- Embed continuous improvement as the way we do things - personally championing and role modeling innovation and simplification ideas, encouraging and demanding them from others.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field
- 2–4 years’ experience in HR, employee engagement, or internal communications
- Experience in organizing events and managing employee programs is an added advantage
