About the Role

KTA Advocates is seeking an exceptional Business Development Manager to lead the firm's growth strategy, brand positioning, and client engagement across Uganda and East Africa.

This role is a key member of the  Management Team and reports directly to the Partnership. The successful candidate will play a strategic role in shaping the firm's market presence, identifying growth opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and driving business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Management Contribution

  • Contribute to firm-wide strategic planning as a member of the Management Team.
  • Advise the Partnership on market positioning, growth opportunities, and competitive strategy.
  • Participate in management discussions regarding firm direction, investments, and priorities.
  • Lead business development planning aligned with annual and long-term objectives.

Business Development & Client Growth

  • Develop and implement business development strategies to support growth objectives.
  • Manage key client programs, including client feedback sessions and relationship-building initiatives.
  • Identify cross-selling, upselling, and new business opportunities across practice areas.
  • Maintain business development pipelines, performance reports, and return-on-investment metrics.

Proposals, Pitches & Competitive Bidding

  • Lead preparation of RFPs, EOIs, tenders, capability statements, and pitch documents.
  • Develop sector-focused business development strategies in areas such as:
    • Energy
    • Financial Services
    • Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
    • Telecommunications
    • Public Procurement
  • Conduct competitor analysis, market research, and pricing intelligence.

Legal Directories & Market Rankings

  • Manage submissions to legal directories including:
    • Chambers Africa
    • The Legal 500
    • IFLR1000
  • Maintain relationships with researchers, editors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Coordinate lawyer profiles and client references for rankings submissions.

Marketing, Brand & Digital Strategy

  • Manage brand materials, corporate communications, and brand consistency.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies across:
    • LinkedIn
    • Twitter/X
    • Facebook
    • Instagram
    • YouTube
  • Monitor digital performance and improve engagement strategies.

Thought Leadership & Public Relations

  • Develop articles, publications, white papers, blogs, and press releases.
  • Promote the firm's expertise through media engagements and industry platforms.
  • Secure speaking opportunities, conferences, and networking opportunities for firm leadership.

Partner & Lawyer Business Development Coaching

  • Coach partners and lawyers on client development strategies.
  • Facilitate business development planning sessions.
  • Conduct pitch preparation and presentation training.
  • Promote a culture of commercial awareness and business growth.

Regional & Multi-Jurisdictional Business Development

  • Manage referral networks and strategic partnerships across East and Southern Africa.
  • Develop regional strategies for cross-border transactions.
  • Support international business proposals involving multiple jurisdictions.

Events, Reporting & Market Intelligence

  • Plan and coordinate client events, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Prepare reports on market trends, regulatory developments, and competitors.
  • Present business development performance metrics to the Partnership.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Marketing (CIM), Strategy, or Business Development is an added advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in business development or marketing within a professional services environment.
  • Proven experience preparing:
    • RFPs
    • EOIs
    • Tenders
    • Competitive bids
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Experience organizing corporate events and stakeholder engagement activities.

Leadership Skills

  • Ability to operate at management level and engage senior executives.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to deliver measurable business outcomes.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • CRM platforms
    • Digital marketing tools
    • Business development pipeline systems
  • Strong commercial and business understanding.

Legal Market Knowledge

  • Knowledge of legal ranking processes such as Chambers Africa, Legal 500, and IFLR1000 is a strong advantage.
