About Organisation:

Hope Health Action (HHA) is a Christian NGO passionate about providing life-saving health and disability care to the world’s most vulnerable without any discrimination.  Founded in 2007, HHA now operates in Haiti, South Sudan and Uganda (the latter two under the umbrella of HHA East Africa).

 

Our work includes responding to the refugee crisis in Uganda through disability, health, nutrition, and education services and initiating a growing range of health and disability projects in South Sudan. This has included establishing one of the leading outpatient rehabilitation centres in Uganda, a new health clinic in the Kajo Keji county (SS) in 2023, extensive livelihood projections for 1,100+ households and working with the UNHCR providing a life-saving therapeutic food to all refugee settlements to tackle severe and acute malnutrition.

 

Job Summary:  The Extension Worker will provide technical guidance to farmers groups and offer extension services. He/she will be mostly independent, but there is a strong team supporting and giving advice and guidance at all times

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical guidance to farmers groups and offer extension services
    • Participate in building the capacity of the community on livelihood and environment related interventions through trainings and demonstrations of good practices in their own household and demonstration-gardens
    • Participate in training of farmers in good agronomic practices like climate smart agriculture and agro-ecology
    • Mobilize and sensitize community to participate in livelihood project activities
    • Participate in registration and selection of beneficiaries
    • Participate in data collection at household level
    • Support VSLA farmer by giving training
    • Participate in monitoring and supervision of livelihood project
    • Participate in preparation of quality, weekly and monthly reports
    • Support the nutrition officer in establishment of vegetable gardens demonstration in the operation area.
    • Attend capacity building trainings organized by HHA in relation to the area of context
    • Any other assigned or designated duty from your supervisor or manager

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

Education
  • The ideal applicant must hold certificate in Agriculture, forestry, or other related fields.
  • A diploma in any of the above areas is an added advantage.
  • Experience of at least 2 years and above in implementing agriculture and livelihood projects.
  • Documented result related to the positions of responsibility.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with an international NGO is an added advantage.
  • SKILLS
  • Creativity and good decision making at all times.
  • A good command of both written and spoken English is required.
  • Ability to speak Arabic and the local language commonly spoken by the beneficiary is an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • ABILITIES
  • Self-driven and ability to work well under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the refugees and host communities.
  • Ability to adhere to HHA Code of Conduct.
