Job Summary:

The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for overseeing credit operations, assessing loan applications, monitoring portfolio performance, and ensuring adherence to the institution’s credit policies. The role involves supervising junior credit officers, conducting risk assessments, and supporting sustainable portfolio growth while maintaining high portfolio quality of a PAR not more than 3%.

Key Responsibility Areas

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients’ eligibility for loans in line with the Credit Policy
  • Interview clients to explain lending procedures, requirements, and repayment obligations.
  • Ensure all loan application documents are complete and submitted to the credit committee for approval.
  • Conduct detailed appraisal, analysis, and verification of client information, including repayment capacity and business activities.
  • Ensure timely loan disbursement and proper documentation.
  • Conduct credit risk assessments to minimize defaults and ensure optimal recovery of disbursed funds.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, credit procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate credit risks in line with institutional objectives.
  • Advise management on improvements to loan policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding loans, ensuring timely repayment.
  • Support loan recovery efforts for delinquent accounts.
  • Conduct portfolio quality reviews and recommend corrective measures.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and loyalty
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of loan and credit documentation.
  • Provide management with periodic reports on portfolio quality, credit risks, and operational performance

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or related field. A post-graduate diploma will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in credit or lending, preferably in a microfinance institution.
  • Should be aged between 25 and 30 years of age
  • Strong understanding of credit risk, lending methodologies, and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the financial sector.
