Location: Kampala/Mbale/West Nile (or as assigned).
Client Profile: Male, 50+ years, diagnosed with Bipolar Affective Disorder; active Business Executive and Real Estate Investor.
Schedule: Full-time (with flexible, live-in or travel-ready arrangement).
Reports To: Client, with coordination from the client’s psychiatrist and family where appropriate
Overall Purpose of the Role
To provide comprehensive, ethical, and professional private nursing care to a high-functioning
adult with Bipolar Affective Disorder. The role blends skilled psychiatric nursing, personal care
assistance, medication management, lifestyle support, and relational diplomacy within a dynamic
and high-stakes home-business environment.
Key Medical & Mental Health Responsibilities
- Monitor and document the client’s mental, emotional, and physical state daily, identifying early signs of manic or depressive episodes.
- Administer and supervise medication as prescribed, ensuring full compliance, tracking side effects, and reporting any anomalies to the physician.
- Develop and maintain structured routines that stabilize mood while accommodating the client’s demanding executive schedule.
- Assist in psychiatric emergency response protocols including de-escalation, suicide risk prevention, or hospitalization coordination when needed.
- Track and support the management of any comorbid physical health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, or arthritis.
Executive Lifestyle & Business Support
- Accompany the client to site visits, board meetings, or investment activities when needed—providing discreet health support without interfering in professional interactions.
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality concerning all business dealings, client conversations, and household dynamics.
- Provide assistance in maintaining energy management, nutrition, sleep hygiene, and travel readiness to support productivity without triggering mood instability.
Relational & Family Dynamics
- Work respectfully within the triangular relationship involving the client, his spouse, and family, ensuring trust, cooperation, and emotional safety.
- Support the spouse where needed, without taking over caregiving authority or creating emotional dependency in the client.
- Help de-escalate domestic tension where it affects the client’s stability, without crossing boundaries into personal or marital counsel.
Ethics, Boundaries & Emotional Intelligence
- Maintain professional emotional boundaries, especially in moments of client overattachment, romanticized attention, or manipulation due to mood instability.
- Decline gifts, favors, or boundary-crossing behaviors gracefully and with documented transparency.
- Uphold a neutral but warm presence in the household—firm in standards, gentle in tone, and protective of the client’s dignity and privacy.
Administrative & Coordination Duties
- Maintain accurate care logs, medication records, mood charts, and behavior journals.
- Coordinate with therapists, psychiatrists, spiritual counselors, or family doctors as part of a confidential multidisciplinary team.
- Support in tracking financial or lifestyle risk behaviors, especially during manic phases (e.g. impulsive spending or risky business decisions), and report to responsible parties where ethically permitted.
Additional Expectations
- Exhibit maturity, resilience, and a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Be flexible with hours and travel, including possible night shifts or temporary relocations.
- Respect and support the client’s faith, values, and cultural preferences.
- Maintain fitness for duty—physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Certificate or diploma in psychiatric/mental health nursing or equivalent.
- Prior experience with bipolar or similar psychiatric conditions.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ) and relational maturity.
- Discretion, diplomacy, and loyalty in high-profile caregiving environments.
- Strong communication, record-keeping, and emergency response skills.
- Preferably Male, or a female nurse with an adjusted work schedule.
- Must be ready for a short three to six months renewable contract; with renumeration of a retainer fee and a commission-based reward income.
