About the role

The Managing Director will serve as a strategic business leader responsible for driving operational excellence across a leading insurance brokerage business in Uganda. The role oversees the full spectrum of operations across General Insurance, Corporate Insurance, and Life Insurance portfolios, ensuring exceptional client service, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and sustainable business growth in a dynamic, competitive market.

Responsibilities

• Lead Strategic Operations - Develop and execute operational strategies that support business growth, improve efficiency, and strengthen market presence across all insurance lines.

• Business Development and Client Relationships - Lead growth initiatives, build strong relationships with clients and insurance partners, and ensure delivery of tailored insurance solutions and high-quality client service.

• Oversee underwriting and risk management - Lead underwriting, risk assessment, and claims operations to ensure effective coverage solutions, efficient claims handling, strong insurer relationships, and sustainable profitability.

• Regulatory compliance and quality standards - Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards while promoting ethical business practices, transparency, and operational excellence.

• Lead operations and technology innovation - Oversee operational infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives, leveraging technology, automation, and data-driven solutions to improve efficiency, client experience, and overall business performance.

• Oversee financial performance and cost management - Manage budgets, forecasts, and operational performance to ensure profitability, cost efficiency, and effective resource utilization while supporting strategic business objectives.

• Lead regional operations and market growth - Oversee operations across Uganda, ensuring consistent service delivery while driving business growth through market expansion, strategic partnerships, and new business opportunities.

• Lead teams and drive performance - Manage and develop high-performing teams, foster collaboration, and promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Oversee claims and client service excellence - Ensure efficient claims management and high service standards, delivering responsive client support and maintaining strong client satisfaction levels.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field (MBA preferred), with at least 15 years of progressive senior operations leadership experience in insurance brokerage.

• Professional insurance qualifications such as FCII, ACII (Chartered Insurance Institute, UK), or an advanced diploma in Insurance from the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU), or equivalent professional certification, are highly desirable.
• Proven track record in insurance operations management with significant experience in General Insurance, Corporate, and Life Insurance sectors across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong experience in regulatory compliance, business development, and operational risk management in the Ugandan insurance market.
• Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, budget and forecasting, process optimization, and complex operations management with market expansion experience.
• Ability to lead transformational operational projects and drive service excellence across international operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities with proven cross-cultural management experience.
• Deep knowledge of insurance brokerage operations, underwriting principles, and regulatory frameworks in Uganda.
• Results-oriented, innovative, and able to adapt to evolving market conditions and client expectations.
• Comprehensive understanding of Ugandan regulatory requirements and proven ability to work effectively with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA Uganda) and other regional markets and regional markets.
