War Child Canada is an internationally recognized charity organization registered in Toronto, Canada, dedicated to helping children and their communities overcome the devastating effects of war. During the past five years, War Child Canada reached over 2,500,000 conflict-afflicted children and adults; 985,000 people benefitted from War Child’s educational initiatives; 480,000 people were helped to climb out of poverty and 1,075,000 people learned more about their rights and had better access to justice systems
War Child Canada in Uganda: Since 2014, War Child Canada has worked in 10 districts (mainly Refugee hosting) implementing integrated education, access to justice (incudes peacebuilding), opportunities/livelihoods, and programs. Our current districts of operation include: Adjumani, Obongi, Yumbe, Madi Okollo,Terego Koboko, Isingiro, Lamwo, Kikuube, and Kamwenge districts.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, the IT volunteer will be responsible for overseeing the provision of day -to -day IT Technicalsupport usersin terms of desktop support and help-desk support, assist with maintenance and upgrading works and ensure proper equipment documentation and physical inventory in compliance with the WCC organizational policies, systems and procedures.
Responsibilities
General Tasks:
• Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, and networks.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, including desktops, laptops, printers, and servers.
• Provide technical support to users, including troubleshooting and resolving IT-related problems.
• Manage and monitor network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls,
• Collaborate with other departments to understand IT needs and requirements.
• Plan and execute IT projects, including preventative maintenance, upgrades, migrations, and installations.
• Assist with on boarding of new users, and off boarding of existed users.
Policies & Systems:
• Support the development and implementation of IT policies, procedures and standards to ensure security, reliability and availability of the systems.
• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of War Child Canada's technology systems and infrastructure. • Implement and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance and security.
Knowledge Management
Identifying and implementing new technologies that can improve operations and increase efficiency both at Country and filed offices
• Document IT systems, configurations, and procedures for knowledge sharing and training.
Procurement:
• Review vendor contracts and coordinate IT purchases (hardware, software and services) to ensure effective deployment of solutions aligned with user needs;
• Maintain licenses and contracts with suppliers and initiate renewal procedures in advance to ensure continuity of the services
Asset Management:
• Coordinate with the Logistics and Security Manager to ensure proper IT equipment documentation as well as physical inventory of IT assets
IT Security & Safety:
• Managing and maintaining the WCC's IT security, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and disaster recovery plans.
Other Duties:
• Actively contribute to learning, development and implementation of change management initiatives.
• Undertake other appropriate level duties as assigned by Head of Finance and Operations from time to time.
Essential:
Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science; or Information Technology; or Software Engineering; or Management Information Systems; or other relevant qualifications from a recognized University / Institution.
• A minimum of 2–3-year experience, holding increasingly progressive responsibilities in working in the field of Information Technology support in a busy organization.
• Strong Knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks, and computer operations.
• Knowledge of network protocols, security principles, and best practices.
• Knowledge about enterprise storage/backup technologies and architecture
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced changing environment -multi-tasks, priorities and meets deadlines in timely manner
• Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS) and backup systems including related software and protocols
Desirable:
• Industry Certification such as CCNA; or MCSE; or Information Security and Systems Audit will be an added advantage.
• Ability to travel, at times at short notice, and spend time away from work base and home.
• Experience working with international organization, charity, is an asset
