Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, and accurate Insurance & Risk Officer with a passion in renewable energy and financial inclusion to join our team. This position will be part of the Global Finance team that is mainly based in Berlin, Germany and Uganda.
Throughout the countries and in line with the company Insurance Policy, you will ensure that local risks are appropriately covered, you will manage and coordinate implementation of the Group Insurance Programs in the region if relevant, and you will develop, maintain and manage Local Insurance Programs. You will ensure a timely and accurate follow-up of the different controlling activities across the company. The Controlling department is responsible for company's internal control activities, business control, reporting to the group and general risk management.
Responsibilities
Implementation and management of insurance programs
- Support the design and implementation of the company insurances
- Coordinate the gathering of information
- Arrange broker tender as the case may be
- Manage and instruct company brokers
- Ensure timely renewal of company insurances
- Monitor claims handling including coordination of loss adjuster surveys
- Adopt relevant reports towards company management
Enterprise Risk Management
- Implement a risk management framework aligned with the group guidelines with each of the company operating entities in collaboration of the global leadership through comprehensive preliminary and final risk assessment and reviews.
- Consolidate the entity risk reports and corroborate for presentation to the Global leadership team for analysis and review.
- Iterate and report the main risks, action plans and risk owners and the potential value at risk to the group through the ERM tool i.e., E. Risk.
Internal Control Management & Efficiency
- Implement the internal control program i.e., INCOME, in all the operating entities and at the global level.
- Engage with the Global and Country leadership teams to assess and challenge the existing control environment, systems and processes and guide on the key action plans to implement to foster improvements for disparities identified in line with the group guidelines.
- Follow up on the status of action plans for priority areas to ensure the country and global teams sufficiently implement action plans within a reasonable time frame.
- Provide leadership and support to the Internal Control Officers in the company entities through capacity building and training on the company Internal Control Framework.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience on energy-related topics, especially off-grid solutions
- Strong interest in risks and insurances, with a clear understanding of the strategic and financial implications
- Ability to adopt and comply with risks management and insurance methodologies and tools
- Strong knowledge of its business perimeter and its future evolutions. The Insurance & Risk Officer should be able to understand the operational, budgetary, legal, ethical and environmental issues linked to entities business in his perimeter
- Adaptable to company and business transformation, the Insurance & Risk Officer must also be open-minded and forward-looking about emerging risks
Competencies:
- Professional level command of written and spoken English. French is an advantage
- Strong Microsoft skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
- To fulfill the compliance requirements, the Insurance & Risk Officer must be rigorous, methodical, and independent
- As a business partner, the Insurance & Risk Officer should be proactive to dialogue with the company top-managers and to challenge risks taken and their mitigation plans.
- Moreover, he/she must be close to the operations and the other risk and project stakeholders within his/her perimeter and embody the role of ambassador of the risks and insurance topics within all projects
- Excitement about the company mission and deep desire to make an impact on off-grid financially underserved customers in sub-Saharan Africa

Qualifications:
- A University degree in business, finance
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, Certification as a CPA, ACCA
