About the job
We are expanding our professional services team in Uganda and looking for a Data Centre Facilities Engineer / Data Center Facility Specialist to take ownership of our infrastructure architecture and layout designs.
This role focuses on end-to-end design planning, system integration, and capacity optimization for high-availability facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate the comprehensive physical architecture and spatial layouts for facility projects, structuring equipment zones, spatial distribution and structural workflows to align with TIA-942 and GB 50174 standards
- Direct the engineering design for critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure, including continuous power supplies (UPS), power distribution frameworks, backup generators, HVAC systems, and airflow management.
- Produce precise technical design packages, including schematic construction drawings, comprehensive equipment specifications, detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and deployment proposals.
- Partner with architectural, fire protection, and structural engineering teams to map out pathway integrations, manage load-bearing requirements, and resolve spatial or layout conflicts.
- Calculate long-term power, climate control, and connectivity requirements based on capacity forecasts to meet specified Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) targets and redundancy parameters.
- Provide remote and localized technical oversight during initial site assessments, mock load testing, equipment commissioning, and structural implementation phases.
Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation or similar
- +5 years of dedicated experience designing large-scale facilities or managing complex MEP engineering projects, with preference for full-lifecycle design on installations supporting over 1,000 racks.
- Deep knowledge of data center international standards (TIA-942, GB 50174, Uptime Institute Tier topologies).
- High proficiency using AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and specialized engineering calculation tools; experience managing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation modeling is an advantage.
- Practical familiarity with medium-voltage generation plants, heavy-duty UPS systems, high-voltage DC distribution, and advanced cooling technologies (free cooling and liquid cooling systems).
- Professional certifications such as Registered Professional Engineer (PE/CEng), Uptime Institute ATD, CDCP, or LEED AP are highly advantageous.
- Ability to travel for site reviews and collaborate effectively with diverse engineering disciplines under tight schedules.
