BACKGROUND
Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian organisation that has been working since 1979 to harness the power of radio, mobile telephones and other ICTs to meet the needs of rural and marginalised communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. We work with more than 1,400 radio organisations located in more than 37 African countries to fight poverty and food insecurity. With the benefit of FRI resources and training, our broadcasting partners deliver practical, relevant, and timely information to tens of millions of farmers, including women farmers. We also work with a range of partners to implement radio projects that address specific development challenges and community needs. Farm Radio International is pioneering a social enterprise delivering vital agricultural information and communication services to rural communities across Africa. Through the Green Leaf Platform in Uganda, we provide quality, weekly agricultural extension services to 70% of the country, reaching over 12 million farmers, with 5.3 million actively engaging. Our model combines the power and reach of radio broadcasting with interactive mobile tools to bridge the gap between farmers and the information they need to thrive. The Green Leaf Platform is evolving to serve not only farmers but also agribusinesses and market-oriented programs that require localised, actionable data, insights, and information to support inclusive growth. By offering access to large-scale, ground-level intelligence and farmer engagement services, FRI is becoming a critical partner in designing and delivering responsive, demand-driven agricultural services and solutions. FRI seeks a short-term consultant—either an individual or a specialised consulting firm—to help unlock the value of our existing datasets and generate actionable business insights that can be used to attract and serve prospective partners, clients, and stakeholders.
SCOPE OF WORK
The consultant will work directly on the Green Leaf Platform project, collaborating with FRI’s MERL, project implementation, marketing, and speciality teams on:

  • Produce tailored analyses that demonstrate the commercial and strategic value of the platform to prospective businesses and stakeholders.

2. Market Research and Opportunity Identification

  • Map market gaps and emerging opportunities aligned with FRI’s data and service capabilities.
3. Business Development Support
  • Use data to identify potential partners and high-value market segments.
  • Support the design and implementation of strategies to grow the platform’s client base and revenue streams.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
