Job Summary: The Community Services Assistant (CSA) is a primarily field-based role serving as the vital interface between the Safe Water Now program (Dispenser intervention) and the communities it serves. The CSA’s core purpose is to ensure an uninterrupted supply of chlorine and the proper installation, servicing, and maintenance of chlorine dispensers. The role also drives community engagement and education through building relationships with promoters and raising awareness within communities, in order to promote the effective use of chlorine for water treatment. Altogether, these efforts enable communities to access safe water, reducing the burden of waterborne diseases and thereby protecting their health and livelihoods.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installing chlorine dispensers at water points in line with the organization’s protocols/guidelines and technical specifications
  • Delivering chlorine by motorcycle to designated dispensers, maintaining consistent supply at all assigned water points
  • Conducting dispenser’s hardware service and maintenance through regular spot checks to ensure proper functioning
  • Ensuring safe handling, storage and accountability of chlorine and dispenser stocks in the store/office and at the designated field sites
  • Maintaining accurate records by completing all required forms and documentation to support effective inventory tracking and reporting
  • Engaging target communities through meetings, outreach, and education activities to raise awareness and promoting safe water practices, including proper dispenser and chlorine use for safe water treatment; and addressing any challenges faced by the community where necessary
  • Collaborating with community promoters and stakeholders to sustain dispenser usage, address barriers, and resolve challenges raised by the community
  • Facilitating weekly check-ins with lead promoters to assess field activities, resolving operational issues, and driving continuous improvement in service delivery
  • Collecting and reporting field data using smartphones for programme assessment, monitoring, and accountability
  • Reporting challenges, community feedback, and dispenser performance issues to supervisors for timely action

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Diploma in Community Education, Development studies, Social work, social sciences, Public Health, Environmental Health sciences, Project management or related discipline
  • 2 years of experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOs
  • The applicants should be fluent in English, and in any of the local languages in the areas of implementation, including Lumasaba, Lusoga, Lugwere, Samia, among others
  • Motorcycle riding experience is A MUST with a valid driving license from a recognized driving school (CLASS A)
  • Computer and mobile device data entry ability or experience (ODK collect, Survey CTO, MS Word Applications)
  • Stock management experience/qualifications is an added advantage
  • Plumbing experience is an added advantage
