About Organisation:

Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC) is an advocacy non-profit organization dedicated to influencing environmental policies to benefit the vulnerable. Based in  Uganda, the organization was born out of the need to contribute to efforts to turn Africa’s environmental protection potential into reality and to ensure that the local person mostly youth and women benefit from this effort.

Job Summary: CECIC seeks a vibrant, self-driven, and creative Youth Advocacy Officer (Volunteer) to support its youth engagement and advocacy work. The role offers a unique opportunity for young professionals passionate about climate action and environmental governance to gain hands-on experience in advocacy, policy engagement, and campaign design.

The Volunteer Youth Advocacy Officer will help strengthen CECIC’s youth-led initiatives by coordinating advocacy campaigns, mobilizing young people, and amplifying youth voices in climate and environmental decision-making spaces.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement youth-focused advocacy and awareness campaigns on climate change, renewable energy, and environmental justice.
  • Mobilize and build the capacity of youth groups, community networks, and climate activists.
  • Develop creative advocacy and communication materials, including policy briefs, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Represent youth voices and CECIC at public dialogues, workshops, and policy meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for youth participation in environmental policy processes and national campaigns.
  • Document, monitor, and report on youth-led advocacy and engagement activities.
  • Collaborate closely with CECIC’s communications and programs teams to integrate youth perspectives across the organization’s work.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, Communications, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in advocacy, youth engagement, or community mobilization (volunteer or professional).
  • Strong understanding of climate change, environmental governance, and youth empowerment issues.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in social media and digital tools for youth engagement and advocacy.
  • Passionate about community development, environmental protection, and youth leadership.
  • Willingness to volunteer and learn within a dynamic team environment.

Terms of Engagement

This is a volunteer position for an initial period of six (6) months, renewable based on performance and organizational needs. While the position is unpaid, CECIC may provide facilitation for fieldwork and official assignments in line with its volunteer policy.
