Description
JOB DETAILS:
Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian non-profit organization using radio, mobile phones and other ICTs to meet the information and communication rights – at scale – of rural and marginalized communities in sub-Saharan Africa. For rural families in Africa, access to information and communication, e.g. about agriculture, climate change, livelihoods, health and nutrition, are critical needs. FRI is committed to gender equality and inclusion as a crosscutting priority as well as an end in itself. Our communication solutions are designed to respond to and transform gender relations and the participation of women, youth and marginalized groups at each stage of program design and delivery processes. More details can be found on the Farm Radio website.
Background
With funding from the IKEA Foundation for an initial two-year period (2022-24), Farm Radio International (FRI) has established a near-countrywide network of Green Leaf agricultural knowledge sharing platforms in Uganda. Individual platforms are centered on weekly interactive radio programs that are collaboratively designed and delivered by rural-oriented radio stations, district agriculture extension services and other agricultural stakeholders. These platforms deliver quality programming about local agriculture with a focus on increasing farmers’ knowledge and facilitating the informed uptake of good agricultural practices, especially circular regenerative agriculture. As a result of this first phase, 12 hubs all linked to the Green Leaf platform are now currently in operation, leading to approximately 70 percent of Ugandan farmers now having improved access to quality agricultural advisory services. Since launching in 2022, over 500 hours of original programming has been delivered via the platforms.
These Green Leaf platforms go beyond the limits of project-based extension services to provide sustained and inclusive quality radio programming that shares agricultural information and opens up spaces for genuine communication and dialogue about farming in Uganda today. An important component of this initial phase was to develop a model that would ensure the sustainability of the platforms over time by actively engaging several key stakeholders in their design, implementation, and support.
After two and a half years of implementation, FRI intends to conduct an experience capitalization workshop aimed at (i) bringing together key actors, representing all the various stakeholders, in Farm Radio's Green Leaf platform initiative in Uganda; (ii) unpacking the successes and failures of the "first phase" of the Platform project; (iii) using a sustainability lens to develop a set of lessons learnt with a view to improve second and subsequent phases. The workshop will take place in Kampala, Uganda in mid September 2024.
Objectives of the Assignment
FRI is seeking a skilled photographer and videographer to document the experience capitalization workshop from 11-12 September 2024 in Kampala, Uganda.
Key deliverables
• One video clip documenting different aspects of the experience capitalization workshop
• One video clip of one on one interviews with 15-30 stakeholders documenting their experiences in the Platform project
• A minimum of 75 still candid and staged photographs of the workshop

The ideal candidate will have experience in event photography and videography, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to capture candid moments as well as staged shots. The photographer/videographer will be responsible for capturing the keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshop sessions, as well as taking individual and group photos of attendees. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines are essential for this role.
