JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary:
The Theater Nurse will provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their safety and well-being at all stages. The nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality perioperative care.
Key Responsibilities: Preoperative Care:
• Assess patients prior to surgery, including physical and emotional readiness.
• Prepare patients for surgery by cleaning, sterilizing, and dressing surgical sites.
• Educate patients and families on the surgical procedure and post-operative care.
Intraoperative Care:
• Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room by sterilizing equipment and arranging surgical instruments.
• Monitor the patient’s vital signs during surgery, maintaining a sterile environment.
• Provide surgical team support, including handing instruments and supplies as needed.
• Count surgical instruments and sandries pre- and post-operation to ensure accountability.
Postoperative Care:
• Transfer patients to the recovery area, monitoring vital signs, pain, and surgical sites.
• Administer prescribed medications and pain management as directed.
• Provide post-operative education to patients and families on wound care, medications, and recovery expectations.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Accurately document all procedures, patient information, and care in the patient’s medical record.
• Communicate any complications or patient concerns with the surgical and nursing team.
• Participate in patient handover to ensure continuity of care.
Compliance and Safety:
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety guidelines.
• Ensure that all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and maintained.
• Adhere to strict aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
• Ensure waste segregation and disposal of medical wastes.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Nursing Council and a valid practicing license.
• Specialized training in perioperative nursing is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in an operating room setting.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of aseptic and infection control practices.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
