On behalf of our client in the Energies sector, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced TEAM LEADER MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS to work in Uganda
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Department: Media and Public Relations
Location: Kampala
Job Purpose:
The Team Leader, Media and Public Relations, is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives to enhance the company’s’s visibility and reputation locally, regionally, and internationally. The role includes media strategy development, stakeholder engagement, content creation, crisis communication, branding, and media monitoring.
Activities:
The main responsibility of the position holders:
- Media Strategy Development
- Develop and execute a media strategy aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Enhance the company’s presence across various media platforms.
- Ensure consistent and effective messaging across all communication channels.
- Public Relations (PR) & Media Engagement
- Manage media relations, including press releases, media inquiries, and press events.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key media houses and journalists.
- Organize at least two media conferences annually.
- Social Media Management
- Develop and execute social media strategies.
- Post a minimum of three updates weekly on all the Company social media platforms.
- Monitor engagement and prepare monthly social media analytics reports.
- Content Creation & Branding
- Produce high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content.
- Develop an annual content calendar within 15 days of contract signing.
- Ensure consistency in The Company’s branding across all platforms.
- Crisis Communication & Media Training
- Develop a robust crisis communication plan within 60 days of contract signing.
- Provide media training for The Company’s representatives.
- Media Monitoring & Research
- Track media coverage and public sentiment on the company’s and the industry.
- Submit monthly media monitoring reports with key insights.
- Conduct industry research to inform communication strategies.
- Income-Generating Projects
- Develop and execute media-related revenue generation projects.
- Publish a 15-year special coffee table book within agreed timelines.
- Publish a quarterly magazine and generate revenue from its sales.
- Event Support & Coordination
- Ensure adequate media coverage for the company’s events.
- Provide PR support including stakeholder invitations and post-event reporting.
- Reporting & Performance Evaluation
- Submit quarterly branding enhancement reports.
- Submit a final report summarizing activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications, Experiences, Competencies & skills required
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, or a related field is required.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in media, communications, or public relations.
- Experience in developing media strategies, managing social media growth, and producing publications.
- Proven record in crisis communication and stakeholder engagement.
Competencies:
- Leadership and Team Management – Ability to lead a communication team and build media capabilities.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Confident in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical Thinking – Able to derive insights from media data and sentiment analysis.
- Time Management – Able to meet strict deadlines for reporting and publishing.
- Public Speaking and Presentation – Comfortable with media briefings and training sessions.
- Technology Savvy – Familiarity with media monitoring tools, design software, social media scheduling tools, etc.
Skills
- Strategic Communication – Ability to develop and implement effective media and PR strategies.
- Media Relations – Skilled in managing relationships with journalists and media houses.
- Social Media Management – Proficient in creating and executing social media strategies ; familiarity with Analytics and platform growth.
- Content Creation – Strong writing, visual, and multimedia content production skills.
- Brand Management – Ensuring consistent branding across platforms.
- Crisis Communication – Ability to develop and implement crisis communication plans.
- Research and Analysis – Conducting industry research to support communication strategies.
- Event Coordination – Planning and executing media coverage for events.
- Project Management – Developing and managing income-generating media projects.
- Digital Marketing – Understanding of digital trends, especially TikTok, X, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Revenue Generation – Expérience in monetizing publications such as magazines or books.
