Job Purpose/Mission

EEA Uganda is looking for an experienced, highly motivated, and disciplined Tax Coordinator with a passion for entrepreneurship, renewable energy, and financial inclusion to join our team. This position is a key role within the Finance Department of a fast-paced start up on the front lines of renewable energy and mobile payment technology.

The Tax Coordinator will collaborate with the Head of Finance to oversee the taxes of the company. The job holder will be responsible for preparing tax documents and payments, keeping detailed documentation and databases, and helping EEA Uganda to stay compliant and structure their policies in a way that would help the company minimize their taxes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Head of Finance and Tax partners on ongoing tax compliance and capital structuring and manage relationship with Tax Advisors.
  • Implement the best tax practices and controls and ensure that these are consistently updated and followed.
  • Ensuring that all tax returns are prepared accurately and timely and taxes remitted monthly before the 15th day of each month, maintaining documentation and reconciling to General Ledger.
  • Responsible for working with tax advisors to prepare the annual income tax returns and review of annual corporate tax computations.
  • Support Head of Finance with strategic improvements to EEA Uganda’s operations, including country-specific tax-efficient structures, transactions between parent and subsidiary.
  • Coordinate External /Internal audits, liaise with the URA/Tax Advisors and ensure that all issues are timely resolved during the audit process.
  • Maintain effective relationships across all departments within the organization and ensure all tax issues raised are resolved timely and sufficient support given.
  • Ensure monthly tax provisioning includes reviewing the tax accruals, as well as the management and reconciliation of the tax balances on the ledger and effective rate analysis are done.
  • Support in putting together YTD and forecast P&L information and calculating estimated taxable income positions, Effective Tax Rates for forecasting purposes.
  • Preparation of responses to URA queries regarding tax issues.
  • Supporting the Head of Finance with tax legislative developments and planning where necessary.
  • Coordinate tax audits by URA, interface between auditors and company personnel, follow up on any disagreements.
  • Ensuring that interim and final corporation tax returns are prepared, filed, and tax installments paid.
  • Responsible for general tax compliance work in relation to PAYE, WHT, VAT, Excise duty, Stamp duty, and Corporation tax.
  • Performance of tax reviews in SAP for VAT and WHT for all invoices paid out by the Bank.
  • Responsible for all reconciliations on all tax accounts and reporting to internal management and external stakeholders on exceptional items.
  • Annual review of the Group recharges to ensure that all services received are value adding and priced at arm’s length in accordance with the Transfer Pricing Act.
  • Perform the group’s self- tax assessments and in-depth examinations, to identify areas of tax exposure and non-compliance and implement appropriate measures.
  • Engage the revenue authority on objections, appeals and dispute resolution; make submissions on behalf of EEA Uganda.
  • Perform annual review of finance policies, standards, and frameworks that have an impact on tax.
  • Engage Group Head of Tax and ensure alignment with Group Tax Objectives.
  • Manage training and support to other areas of the company to ensure they have sufficient tax compliance understanding to support the Tax function.
  • Support Accounts Team lead to work closely with Uganda department heads to understand monthly expenses (BvA), monitor spending and drive efficiencies in cost centers.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge and skills

Experience:

  • 5 years and above work experience in a multinational company or financial institution, preferably with operations in Africa.
  • Acumen in accounting and tax issues and procedures.
  • Detail-oriented, with a highly developed sense of reliability and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Trustworthiness and willingness to take responsibility.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative nature.
  • Strong work ethic and integrity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in business administration, Commerce, Accounting, Finance or their equivalent and full ACCA or CPA Uganda.

Language(s):

  • English

Technology:

  • Experience and proficiency in accounting software tools, i.e SAP
  • Experience and proficiency in excel.
  • Proficiency in navigating and using URA tax platform.
