Location: Kampala

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled Tax Accountant to join our dynamic team.

Position Overview:

The Tax Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of their tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tax regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Monitor and reconcile the tax ledgers on the URA portal.
  2. Maintain transfer pricing documentation.
  3. Liaise with tax consultants during annual tax health checks.
  4. Engage URA to resolve pending tax matters, maintain a file of URA correspondences, and knowledge of WHT vs VAT on imported services and VAT vs. Income Tax.
  5. Review and reconcile tax accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  6. Analyze financial statements and reports to identify tax implications and opportunities for tax savings.
  7. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to support the completion of tax audits and inquiries.
  8. Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial performance.
  9. Stay up-to-date on changes in tax laws and regulations, and assess their impact on the company's tax position.
  10. Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and projections for tax planning purposes.
  11. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to ensure tax compliance and alignment with business objectives.
  12. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters, including transaction structuring and compliance requirements.
  13. Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

 

Education, Skills and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
  2. At least two years’ experience as a Tax Consultant in a big Audit firm, or 4 years’ experience at a mid-tier audit firm.
  3. Proficiency in tax preparation software and financial management systems; experience with SAP or Oracle is a plus.
  4. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify tax implications.
  5. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate complex tax concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  7. Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  8. Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  9. Experience with international tax issues and transfer pricing is desirable but not required.
