About Organisation:

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and general oversight for Student affairs within the College. The Student Affairs Administrator is the overall coordinator of student life throughout the College;
  • Supervise the students’ Guild leadership and all Guild activities like Guild President and Parliamentary elections and orientation workshops for new guild leaders;
  • Execute and organize students’ judicial system at all levels;
  • Innovate, plan, implement, supervise and monitor the strategic departmental activities and annual action plans and all budgets i.e. office and student guild budgets and ensure guild funds are well managed;
  • Plan for and supervise accommodation facilities for all categories of students; assist in receiving new students and giving them a comprehensive orientation;
  • Innovate, plan and supervise students’ catering services and welfare services;
  • Plan and supervise sports activities within and outside the College.
  • Organize and supervise entertainment, cultural and social activities, club activities and other students’ organizations;
  • Liaise with the outside community, especially the local community around the College, in matters concerning students;
  • Serve as the primary liaison mediating between students and the administration/academic offices;
  • Provide guidance and counselling services to the students;
  • Supervise, coordinate and appraise the staff in the Student Affairs office;
  • Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • The prospective candidate must:
    • Be a holder of Master’s Degree preferably in any of the following fields; Counseling Psychology, Public Administration, Human Resource in Education Administration, Sociology, Public Relations, Educational Administration, Masters in Business Administration or Theology from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
    • Be a holder of a good Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
    • Have at least three (3) years management experience working in a University as a Warden of a sizable University hall, Head Teacher in a well-established secondary school or Chaplain in a University context or Youth Ministry leader of an organization that deals with University / College Students.
  • Must be a person of strong faith and integrity, a committed and practicing Christian.
  • Be a holder of Master’s Degree preferably in any of the following fields; Counseling Psychology, Public Administration, Human Resource in Education Administration, Sociology, Public Relations, Educational Administration, Masters in Business Administration or Theology from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
  • Be a holder of a good Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
  • Have at least three (3) years management experience working in a University as a Warden of a sizable University hall, Head Teacher in a well-established secondary school or Chaplain in a University context or Youth Ministry leader of an organization that deals with University / College Students.

Experience and Key competences:

  • Have knowledge and/or understanding of national laws and policies in education relating to academic excellence;
  • Strong team leadership skills and demonstrable knowledge of managing an array of student activities and their welfare;
  • Clear understanding and appreciation of student life and peculiar needs;
  • Personable, and able to relate dynamically with young adults in the modern context;
  • Strong public relations skills and interpersonal skills;
  • Have the ability to innovate, plan, execute, and monitor departmental programs;
  • Have the ability to lead, motivate and develop staff under the Student Affairs;
  • Literacy in ICT and competency in MS Office Applications;
  • Planning and financial management skills;
  • Have the ability to write reports and diligent to follow through with actions;
  • Be of high ethical standards and professionalism;
  • Have the ability to chair meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
