JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose:
The Shift Leader oversees the safe and efficient operation of production machinery during assigned shifts. They ensure the required quantity and quality of products are manufactured according to the production plan and customer or other specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Responsibilities:
• Monitor and adjust production processes and equipment to maintain product quality and optimize productivity.
• Ensure material mixers maintain the correct ratio of ingredients.
• Set up and operate equipment according to good manufacturing practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures (SOP).
• Oversee machine operations, reporting any issues to the Engineering Head.
• Start up machines and adjust settings to meet operational parameters.
• Calibrate and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain product quality.
• Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as part of daily routines.
• Assist engineers in developing and testing prototypes, new processes, or procedures.
Production Coordination:
• Perform thorough handovers to the incoming Shift Leader at the end of each shift, ensuring the accuracy of production reports.
• Provide shift supervisors with progress and changeover updates.
• Allocate tasks and machines to operators, ensuring manpower is distributed effectively.
• Monitor machine operator attendance and adjust schedules to meet production targets.
• Prepare key production documents, including SOPs, batch records, inventory reports, and productivity assessments.
• Provide technical training and advice to operators and technicians.
Process Control and Compliance:
• Ensure cleanliness and safety on the factory floor.
• Inspect finished products to verify they meet quality standards and customer specifications.
• Set up and verify the operation of safety equipment.
• Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
• Conduct environmental safety inspections and ensure compliance with relevant protocols.
• Manage the disposal, recycling, or reuse of waste materials.
Leadership Responsibilities:
• Lead the team in implementing the Mulwana Way operating system.
• Conduct daily 8-minute team meetings and attend MDT2 meetings to report on the section’s performance.
• Actively participate in organizational performance planning.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science, Higher Diploma in Engineering, or equivalent qualification in a related field (preferred).
• At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Practical mechanical skills, manual dexterity, and attention to detail.
• Positive attitude, energy, flexibility, and a drive to improve processes.
• Ability to handle pressure and work extended hours.
• Capability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
