Background and Purpose:
Prudential is establishing new businesses in Africa. We have acquired businesses in Ghana, Kenya,
Uganda and Zambia. To support the sustainable growth of the businesses, it is important for Prudential to ensure that a robust Compliance, Legal, Risk and Governance function is in place to support the regulatory structure in the operating environment.
Job Purpose & Scope:
The role holder reports to, and acts on behalf of the CEO and the Board by monitoring and reporting results of the risk, financial crime and security efforts of the company and in providing guidance for the
board and senior management team on these matters. The role holder is authorized to implement all the necessary actions to ensure the achievement of the said objectives.
The role holder will be responsible for overseeing Corporate Risk, AML and Security programs,
functioning as an independent and objective role that reviews and evaluates issues and concerns within
the organisation. The position will ensure that the behaviour in the organisation meets the company’s
standard of conduct.
The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity, an ardent team player, with demonstrable
leadership skills and all round familiarity with business operations including financial procedures and
regulations, in addition to other business areas.
• To ensure compliance of the Company, at all times, with the Anti Money Laundering, Counter
Terrorist Financing Policy and Sanctions Policy
• To act as a point of contact for matters with the Insurance Regulatory Authority and other regulatory
bodies.
• To evaluate compliance with internal risk policies and procedures set by the Board of Directors and
Management, including the Group Anti-Fraud Policy.
• To act as the Money Laundering Prevention Officer (MLPO) discharging accountabilities set out in
the Group Anti Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Policy and reviewing conducting
sanction screening
Risk
• To act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, and presenting the Risk Report for the quarterly Audit Committee Meetings.
Principal Accountability
Financial Crime
• To regularly carry out a gap analysis to ascertain compliance with the Group Risk Framework and
Risk policies
• To create and implement local risk policies, standards and procedures, as appropriate
• To prepare and/or provide support in the preparation of reporting to the Group committees as required.
• To implement the Prudential Africa ERM framework
• To prepare an annual plan with a specific focus on addressing/managing risk
Security
• Monitor and review implementation of the company security policy which sets out the minimum requirements to be followed for physical security and business travel security
• Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive physical security standards, guidelines, procedures and practices that address security risks and requirements
• Ensure implementation of the travel security standards
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
• Degree in Actuarial Sciences or Finance related field.
• Demonstrated experience in life insurance business and risk management
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business management with a risk & compliance component
• A general knowledge and understanding of insurance, as well as legislation, rules and regulations impacting the insurance industry
• Excellent computer skills
