Develop and implement the strategy to identify, and onboard merchants to sell products and services onlineTo develop and manage categories and category teams across multiple markets MTN operates in. Grow and manage the merchant base; negotiate commission agreements with merchants and manufacturers and manage supplier performance against agreements. Develop operational processes required to support category management including merchant onboarding, quality assurance, packaging, listing content, and reporting. Develop and implement a strategy to onboard merchants on both ecommerce storefronts and aggregated marketplace. Support Marketplace Opco teams in developing a merchant onboarding strategy, identify priority categories and merchant support structures.

Main Job Functions:
• Creating strong relationships with merchants
Recommending strategies for best ways to utilise the MTN Marketplace platform
• Demonstrating an indepth understanding of industry trends
• Support the operations team in delivering a world-class merchant experience – monitor category returns data, support the Opco’s customer service teams strategies on product queries and resolving any customer complaints
• Manage stock and availability (including replenishment orders strategy for large merchants)
Deliver on customer experience within the department (ensuring products are delivered on time, merchant terms are aligned, product quality is managed etc.)
• Drive merchant brand awareness through developing marketing and category strategies with marketing/category teams

Continuous business process optimization of marketplace.
• Draft/define workflow for product catalogue – SKU codes, stocking management and order management.
• Facilitate and advice on systems/capability for routine promotional campaigns

Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
• Education:
• Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree
• MBA or a master’s an advantage
• Experience:
• 5-10 years merchant / category management experience in retail or e-commerce.
• A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in defining, developing and deploying merchant/category strategies within an ecommerce retail driven environment, preferably in a scalable/large scale ecommerce / marketplace multi-country environment.
• Prior experience Financial Services preferred, with experience within the telecom industry and with Mobile Money being an added advantage
