Job Summary:

The School Nurse supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all students within the school setting. The nurse addresses physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs and supports health education and a healthy school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students and staff for injuries and acute/chronic health conditions.
  • Manage daily health office activities, including medication administration, first aid, and health screenings.
  • Maintain accurate health records and documentation in accordance with school policies and state regulations.
  • Monitor and manage students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies).
  • Develop and implement Individualised Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for students with special medical needs.
  • Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health education programs for students and staff.
  • Provide training to staff on health and safety practices, including CPR/first aid and handling of medical emergencies.
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in crisis response planning.
  • Participate in Individualised Education Program (IEP) meetings when appropriate.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Registered Nurse with a licence
  • Minimum of a certificate or Diploma in Nursing
  • Minimum 2-3 years of clinical nursing experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Compassionate, patient-centred, and culturally sensitive.
