Position Overview

  • Distributes clinical related assignments, and oversees completion and compliance of clinical assignments and duties. Assumes role as a clinical resource lead to other staff members.
  • Keeps clinical and office manager informed of practice needs and problems. Assists clinical manager in resolving technical, operational, system and other related issues on a timely basis. Takes appropriate corrective action when needed.
  • Monitors practice activities and collaborates with staff in identification of needed resources to ensure optimal patient flow and outcomes.
  • Evaluates and enforces proper infection control practices to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Provides routine staff education and in-servicing when appropriate.
  • Actively participates in CHMG accreditation programs and processes. Assists clinical manager in maintaining accurate documentation required by regulatory agencies and maintaining accurate records. Participates in inspections.
  • Works with clinical manager to develop, monitor, and maintain PI projects and actively engages staff participation in ongoing PI projects.
  • Triages and assesses patients and determines the clinical priority by assessing patient's condition, medical history, and present status by screening and interviewing patient, by reviewing medical records, and by reviewing physician notes. Performs and documents part of the physical assessment including but not limited to chief complaint and vital signs. Obtains and records patient medical history as needed. Discusses and reviews patient's prognosis with medical staff.
  • Reviews and coordinates patient's medical phone calls, assesses the patient's status, and schedules treatment according to established protocol. Reviews medication refill requests, laboratory and other test results daily and prioritizes them for LIPs according to established protocol.
  • Performs nursing care and treatment modalities appropriate for individual patients. Assists LIP with procedures, performs EKG, removes sutures, cleans wounds, applies dressings, obtains specimens and cultures while labeling patients and specimens according to CH policy. References policies and procedures to assure Capital Health best practices are followed.
  • Administers medications accurately and safely. Documents patient's records according to established protocol. Performs and demonstrates technical skills specific to assigned ambulatory setting. Calls in prescriptions to pharmacies under the direction of the LIP. Completes competency checklist with their preceptors.
  • Recognizes important changes in patient condition and reacts appropriately in ambulatory setting; Acknowledges and includes patient's family during communication with the patient, as appropriate and as designated by ambulatory patient.
  • Supports principles from Capital Health core mission (quality care, compassion, dignity and comprehensive continuum of care). Seeks interpretation or understanding of the illness, pain, fear, anxiety or other stressful emotion.
  • Prepares and maintains thorough, clear, and concise documentation in patient's charts. Documents nursing actions, type, and effect of treatments, patient responses, and other required information.
  • Performs Quality Assurance (QA) activities as defined by ambulatory setting. Documents quality control for waived testing and sterilization of instruments as required according to established policies and procedures; Oversees other quality and regulatory initiatives documentation takes appropriate action to remedy any discrepancies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and possesses a willingness to adapt to changing department demands. Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient care activity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
  • NJ RN License
  • AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider
  • Two years' experience in an acute, urgent care or outpatient setting.
