In Uganda, PATH is conducting a qualitative study on implant provision in pharmacies and drug shops in the context of informed choice in the private sector. PATH is working with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and partners to expand access to family planning services and increase method choice through pharmacies and drug shops. The study will help to identify barriers, stakeholder perspectives, and implementation challenges, ultimately contributing to evidence-based decision-making on whether to implement a pilot with actual service provision.

This is an observational study using a qualitative and exploratory approach using in-depth interviews with key informants, IDIs with providers and FDGs with clients to gain their insights into the acceptability and perceived feasibility of the provision of implants through pharmacies and drug shops.
PATH is seeking to recruit 4 Research assistants based in the metropolitan Kampala districts to include; Kampala, Mpigi, Wakiso and Mukono. The research assistants will primarily collect field data using interview guides, transcribe data and report.
The time period of this employment is 3 months

Major Responsibilities
• Attend all required study training, orientations and meetings.
• Be physically present in the assigned implementing district whenever required.
• Recruit participants including screening for eligibility.
• Obtain informed consent and enroll participants.
• Orient the participants on the study
• Conduct In-depth interviews with participants
• Note-taking during FDGs
• Record data on data collection forms (paper-based, mobile electronic device, laptop).
• Translate verbatimely the interview notes
• Check data for quality and completeness.
• Transfer data regularly to the supervisor
• Communicate regularly with the supervisor to ensure effective implementation of the study activities including sufficient enrolment and implementation according to protocol, ethics and other regulatory approvals.
• Solve problems together with the supervisor

Qualification and Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma.
• Experience in qualitative research.
• Ability to master new tools as required.
• Ability to respect the confidentiality of participants.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills.

• Attention to detail and ability to record data with precision and accuracy.
• Computer skills: Word
• Fluent in speaking and reading English and Luganda.
Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Uganda.
