Job Aim/Overall Purpose/Job Summary:
As a QC/QA Chemist in our cassava processing factory, your role involves ensuring the quality and safety of our cassava products through rigorous testing, analysis, and adherence to regulatory standards. You will work closely with the Factory Manager to maintain quality control processes, troubleshoot any quality issues, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Control Testing and Analysis
• Perform routine and ad-hoc testing of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished cassava flour, starch, and sago products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Monitor and maintain accurate records of test results, deviations, and corrective actions.
Quality Assurance Procedures
• Assist in the development and implementation of quality assurance procedures and protocols.
• Participate in internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to quality management systems.
• Identify areas for improvement in quality control processes and recommend corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance
• Stay up-to-date with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to cassava processing and food safety.
• Ensure that all quality control activities comply with relevant regulatory guidelines and certifications.
Training and Documentation
• Train production staff on quality control procedures, sampling techniques, and equipment operation.
• Maintain detailed documentation of quality control activities, including test methods, procedures, and specifications.
Continuous Improvement
• Collaborate with the factory production team to identify opportunities for process optimization and quality improvement.
• Propose and implement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
Health and Safety
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines when handling hazardous chemicals and operating laboratory equipment.
• Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses to the factory manager.
Additional Remarks:
• Should be experienced with pH, ash, Acidity, and starch content tests. If not, he/she should be capable enough to do tests by understanding and executing the standard procedures as drafted by ISO or UNBS
• Should be capable enough to build the laboratory from scratch and run it properly.
• Should know how to prepare standard buffer solutions.
• Should also handle in-process Quality Assurance by ensuring all the quality parameters as per GMP are being followed.
• Should have basic knowledge of OSHE and plant safety. Should be proficient with GMP regulations and guidelines. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be a team player.
Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a quality control or quality assurance role in the food processing industry, preferably in cassava processing.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and quality management systems.
• Knowledge of HACCP principles, GMP, and food safety regulations.
