AHF-Uganda Cares is collaboration between the Uganda Ministry of Health and AIDS Healthcare Foundation with a mission to provide cutting edge and free HIV and AIDS services, including antiretroviral therapy in resource constrained settings.
AHF - Uganda Cares to date operates in 23 districts including Masaka, Kampala, Rakai, Kyotera, Lyantonde, Soroti, Lwengo, Luweero, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Kalangala, Masindi, Amuria, Butambala, Gomba, Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Buikwe, Ntungamo, Tororo, Kapelebyong, Gulu, Busia and supports 52 clinic sites country wide. The organisation now seeks to hire highly competent, dynamic and experienced persons to fill the position below.
Psychiatric Clinical Officer- Masaka HCC
The position is based at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in Masaka City. .

The Psychiatric Clinical Officer is responsible for providing treatment of mental illnesses through, reviewing of mental status of clients, counselling and active case management based on competence. He/she will ensure right diagnosis and prescription is provided to clients with mental illness in a timely manner and makes appropriate referrals for better management of cases. The holder of this position will perform among others the following duties.
• Plan and budget for psychiatric clinical activities in the hospital and lower-level facilities
• Provide clinical care and monitoring of patients with mental illnesses.

• Provide clinical care and monitoring of patients with mental illnesses.
• Order, perform, interpret, and evaluate mental health screening and diagnostic tests/tools to identify and assess patient's mental and clinical problems and healthcare needs.
• Record physical and mental findings and formulates plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition; discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
• Prescribe medication or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, psychosocial care, occupational therapy or related therapeutic procedures, refills medication.
• Refer patients to Medical Officer, physician, or specialist for cons:
• Participate as a visiting psychiatric clinician to support, mentor and coach lower-level facilities and community settings.
• Protect mental patients, relatives and staff involved in mental case management

Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of Diploma in mental health from a reputable training institution.
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council
• Must have at least 2 years of experience providing similar services in a reputable health facility or organization.

Experience in Months: 24

Level of Education: Associate Degree
