Mission and objectives

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime. Established in 1997 through a merger between the United Nations Drug Control Programme and the Centre for International Crime Prevention, UNODC operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices. UNODC is mandated to assist Member States in their struggle against illicit drugs, crime and terrorism. In the Millennium Declaration, Member States also resolved to intensify efforts to fight transnational crime in all its dimensions, to redouble the efforts to implement the commitment to counter the world drug problem and to take concerted action against international terrorism.

Context

This assignment is part of the “Promoting Accountability, Integrity and Transparency in Justice – Uganda” project implemented by UNODC. The project supports strengthening justice institutions, enhancing accountability mechanisms, and promoting integrity within the justice sector. The UN Volunteer will play a critical role in supporting implementation in Northern Uganda (including Gulu and Moroto), where UNODC has limited operational presence, ensuring effective coordination, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of project outputs. The role will also support integration of gender-responsive approaches across all activities in line with donor requirements.

Task description

Under the supervision of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, the UN Volunteer will: - Support the implementation of project activities in Northern Uganda, including planning, coordination, and follow-up - Coordinate field-level engagements with government institutions, civil society, and local stakeholders - Facilitate the organization of trainings, workshops, and outreach activities - Support monitoring and reporting of project activities, including data collection and analysis - Contribute to the preparation of work plans, reports, and technical documents - Support the integration of gender-responsive approaches across project interventions - Liaise with partners to ensure alignment with project objectives and timelines - Support logistical and administrative processes, including procurement and budget monitoring - Contribute to knowledge management and documentation of lessons learned - Assist in communication and visibility of project activities - Perform other duties as required
