Thomson Foundation is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager with a strong background in media development to support the delivery of an upcoming initiative aimed at strengthening media ecosystems and countering disinformation in Uganda. This is a fixed-term contract for 9 months, with a possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the project.
  • Managing project timelines, deliverables, budgets, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinating with consultants, trainers, and local partners to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Liaising with internal teams to provide regular project updates and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Contributing to project communications and visibility efforts.
  • Ensuring that all project activities align with Thomson Foundation’s commitment to promoting independent media and countering disinformation.

Requirements

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have extensive experience in project management within international development.
  • Possess a strong background in media development, with a solid understanding of media ecosystems in East Africa (preferably Uganda).
  • Have proven expertise in managing donor-funded projects, including budget management, MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) frameworks, and risk management.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and coordination skills, with the ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Have strong writing and reporting skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports for donors and internal use.
  • Are committed to ethical journalism, media freedom, and human rights.

  • Contract duration: 9 months (with potential for extension).
  • Location: Uganda.
  • Start date: June 2025.
