Job Description

Job Title: Project Manager – Inclusive e-learning for rural Ugandan youth

Reports to: Clinical Director

Location: Fort Portal

Duration: 12 months

Project overview:

This 12-month pilot project will research self-directed e-learning as a means to improve learning outcomes for rural Ugandan children, especially girls and those living with disabilities, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and improve quality of life.

The key objectives of this position are the following:

  • Overall management of the project under Kyaninga Child Development Centre and Embrace International Foundation
  • Establish effective working relationships and networking with relevant partners for project implementation
  • Co-ordination and communication between donor organisations, project staff and activities
  • Ensure excellence in implementation in terms of impact, data collection, reporting, and timeliness
  • Stay abreast of donor compliances and requirements
  • Capacity building of project team members on compliance requirement

Main Roles:

  • Project phase in, phase out, transition and sustainability planning of the project as required.
  • Ensure that quarterly and yearly budget, detailed implementation plan and operational strategy are in place and approved in line with Project Design and donor requirements.
  • Accurate and up to date budget reporting and utilization achieved by 100%.
  • Ensure that baseline survey, project review and evaluation are in place according to the schedule.
  • High quality coordination maintained in local, national and international level (where applicable)
  • Use performance management to ensure high quality output and performance of staff
  • Project stakeholders provided with comprehensive documentation and each stakeholder clarified on duty bound activity.
  • Support teams are clarified on procedures and reporting process quality and timeline.
  • Regular meetings conducted among Project team on progress work and further analysis on needs for change to donor requests through open and constant channels of communications with donors
  • Head review meetings, and follow-up on agreed items as well as project start-up meetings with all key stakeholders.
  • Provide strong servant leadership, encourage, support, coach and mentor the project team, ensuring capacity is built and appropriate results are attained.
  • Develop and ensure appropriate tools and strategy to monitor the progress and quality and impact of the project and is implemented
  • To assist in resolving issues that comes up during project implementation.
  • Immediately communicate significant issues that may come across to supervisor
  • Lead the recruitment process in the Project team whenever the case arises to hire new staff to manage the project

Qualifications, Experience and Personal characteristics:

  • Relevant masters level degree or equivalent research experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience working in similar project management roles
  • Highly motivated with an ability to take ownership and with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well on own initiative as well as part of a growing team
  •  Display effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude with a “can do” approach is essential
  • Critical thinker and ability to see “outside the box” with proven problem-solving ability and able to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Computer literate including advanced Excel.
  • Excellent proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Knowledge of Rutooro is an advantage but not essential
  • Willingness to learn and develop.
  • Good driving skills with a valid license an advantage but not essential

Hours – Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 5pm (working outside these hours may be needed on occasion)

Remuneration – 1,800,000 – 2,500,000 UGX (depending on experience)

Benefits – lunch daily, ongoing training and CPD support.
