Job Title: Project Legal Officer-GBV shelter (2) positions
Reports to: Project Coordinator - GBV
Responsible for: Psychosocial Assistant, Shelter Matron, Shelter Attendant Counselor
Directorate: Programme and Fundraising Manager
Location: Mubende and Bwaise GBV shelter
Job role: The Project Legal will lead and oversee the Gender Based Violence Shelter team. He/ She will be in responsible for the provision of Probono and legal aid support to survivors of GBV at the GBV Shelters. He/She will be responsible for activity implementation, compiling quality project narrative reports in compliance with AAIU and donor standards. The role supports advocacy, resource mobilization and public engagements while documenting and sharing project success stories
Key Result Areas:
1. Supervise the GBV Shelter operations, project, and support staff.
2. Take lead in planning, implementation, documentation, monitoring, and periodical reporting on project activities as per the AAIU and Doner guidelines.
3. Provide Probono and legal support to survivors of GBV at the GBVS.
4. Strengthen National/ district Medico-legal coordination and provision of services on GBV and SRH using existing structures.
5. Develop concepts to facilitate implementation of project activities as per the Doner approved work plan and budget.
6. Take lead in the organizing meetings and mobilization of relevant stakeholders to actively participate in the meetings.
7. Work with partners to document and compile reports of GBV cases and incidence reports for wider sharing with stakeholders.
8. Strengthen collaboration and coordination with the district local government and partners on GBV response and prevention and access to sexual reproductive health rights.
9. Provide GBV survivors and witnesses with pre court training and counselling for confidence building.
10. Support in resource mobilization.
11. Any other roles assigned to him/Her by his/her supervisor.
Person Specifications:
Qualifications:
• A minimum of Honors Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution
• Diploma in legal practice from law development center or any recognized institution
• Valid Practicing License
• Post Graduate diploma in project planning and management or any related field is an added advantage.
Experience:
• Minimum 3 years of progressively relevant work experience in the field of Legal practice, with a bias in women and children’s rights.
• Proven experience in implementing women’s rights projects
• Experience in working in an NGO is an added advantage.
Skills and Abilities:
Practical knowledge of court processes/ procedures and possession of a valid practicing certificate is a must, Practical experience in providing probono services to victims of GBV including legal advice, representation in court, rehabilitation, andresettlement, Knowledge of Gender, Human rights and gender-based violence issues is a must, Good communication (Oral and written) skills, Good interpersonal and communication skills, Legal Research, Litigation skills, Knowledge of gender, power analysis, Knowledge of feminist analysis and Human Rights based Approaches, Planning and organizing, Problem solving and decision-making skills, Team player, Confidence, openness and willingness to learn, Report writing skills, Motorcycle ridingskills, Ability to establish critical working relationships, Ability to promote and safeguard AAU policies, Ability to conduct power analysis.
