Q-Sourcing Servtec Group is looking for a competentskilled, and experienced project environmental manager for one of our clients in Uganda.

Job summary:

Reporting to the project HSSE manager, the project environmental manager will be responsible for promoting site HSE requirements and ensure CCSJV and its Sub‑Contractors comply with their statutory responsibilities in the field of Environmental Protection. Ensuring that all work carried out by CCSJV and its Sub‑Contractors does not create a hazard to the health or safety of anyone who might be affected or cause undue harm to the environment. He / She will ensure compliance with the relevant Project HSE Policy, Procedures and Practices and be the custodian of the Project Environmental Plans including spill response, wetlands management,  Pollution Prevention and waste management

Key Roles and responsibilities

  • Be fully conversant with the Project HSE Policy, Plans and Procedures
  • Monitor the implementation of the Project, HSE Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plans at site
  • Interpret the requirements of the other HSE Plans, Environmental Plans, Procedures, Work Instructions etc. for the benefit of the Area Construction Managers
  • Confirm with the Project HSE Manager the potential severity of all Environmental Incidents, specifically Near Miss incidents
  • Be site custodian of Environmental monitoring Registers and keep up dated
  • Undertake environmental monitoring across the site,
  • Monitor waste transfer off site
  • Act as a team member of all Incident Investigation committees
  • Participate in Site Audits / Inspections in conjunction with the Project Audit and Inspection Programme
  • Develop, assist and conduct on-site training for all levels of personnel ensuring a consistent approach to HSE Management and awareness, throughout all functional disciplines
  • Implement the behavioural safety and Near Miss and Safety Concern programmes where they will benefit environmental awareness
  • Conduct daily HSE inspections of all worksite and storage areas associated with the site works programme
  • Collate all Key Performance Indicator data and transmit on a weekly basis
  • Maintain a daily log of all notable activities and all Environmental concerns
  • Attend toolbox talks on a regular basis (daily at various locations) and ensure that they are being conducted in a professional and capable manner
  • Carry out regular monitoring in the application of the PTW system
  • Review Contractor and security contractor Plans, Procedures, Work Instructions, Method Statements and Risk Assessments, including JHEA’s
  • To participate in daily construction meetings and liaise with the Site Engineering and Construction Supervision to ensure that they are kept informed of all site related activities
  • Set a personal example to all personnel and actively promote safety on the project, during travel to site and during day-to-day activities
  • Shall actively participate in Project reviews, training and site audits carried out by Project HSE Manager
  • Promote HSE awareness to the levels necessary in order to achieve a World Class health & safety and environmental performance at the site

Qualifications and experience

  • 5 years’ experience in major engineering construction projects
  • Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities as above for Health and Safety and Promote CCSJV’s Environmental Policies, plans and procedures
  • Associate Membership – Institution of Occupational Safety or NIOSH, IEMA or their Environmental Institution or equivalent
  • NEEBOSH, IEME Certificate or BSc or equivalent in Environmental Management or Science
  • Good Basic computer experience to intermediate level as a minimum
  • Good Working knowledge of Microsoft packages as a minimum
  • Good English language reading, writing and speaking
  • Individual must be self-motivated
  • Understand the importance of timely completion of task
  • Local or expatriate acceptable if criteria are met
