JOB DETAILS:
Purpose & Scope of the Role
The Project Accountant will manage the financial transactions, reporting, and budgeting of a field-based project, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial management.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Financial Management
• Process and ensure quality assurance of financial transactions.
• Enter all project-related transactions into the finance system in a timely manner.

 

 

• Develop controls and processes aligned with UCF’s policies and guidelines.

 

 

• Prepare and review monthly transaction listings for completeness and ensure necessary adjustments are posted.
• Perform monthly cash counts and reconcile project balance sheet accounts.

 

 

• Ensure all financial transactions have proper supporting documentation and are appropriately filed.
• Assist the Project Manager in preparing budgets for internal planning and reporting.
• Support the project’s annual audit process.
2. Reporting and Analysis
• Produce timely and accurate monthly financial reports for projects and partners.
• Conduct financial analysis to assist project decision-making.

 

 

• Review, produce, and consolidate financial reports for internal management and donor reporting.
• Ensure adherence to reporting schedules and timelines.
• Provide financial narratives to accompany financial reports as needed.

 

 

• Develop templates and tools for project financial reporting and management.
• Support periodic reviews and preparation of revised project budgets.
3. Systems and Compliance
• Work with project staff to establish robust financial management systems that meet project and audit requirements.
• Maintain a register of assets acquired during project implementation.

• Establish a filing mechanism for all project-related expenses and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with UCF’s governance, donor regulations, and project requirements.
• Assist in training team members on financial systems and compliance.
4. Stakeholder and Team Support
• Maintain strong working relationships with consortium members, project staff, and stakeholders.
• Ensure safe storage and handling of project-related financial data.
• Support the team’s capacity-building needs and provide technical financial advice as required.
• Assist in creating a safe and secure working environment for project staff.

Qualifications and Experience
•  Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
o Professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA are an added advantage.
• Experience:
o Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial accounting, preferably in an NGO setting.
o Experience working with government or donor-funded projects.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office, especially advanced MS Excel.
o Strong ability to manage financial systems and reporting tools.
• Other Skills and Attributes:
o Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
o Ability to prioritize tasks, work under tight deadlines, and multi-task effectively.
o High level of resilience and capacity to work under minimal supervision.
o Willingness to travel and temporarily work in remote areas as needed.
