This is an international humanitarian and development Non-Governmental Organization in General Consultative status with the (UN COESOC) United Nations Economic and Social Council, and one of the largest in South Korea. Established in 1991, the organization currently conducts missions around the world to improve quality of life and education standards, as well as to provide aid in areas of civil unrest or natural disaster. In order to develop and achieve the NGO objectives, Good Neighbors International Uganda is seeking to recruit the following employee to work at Field Office in Jinja.

Project Name: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Improvement Project for the Girls in Jinja District

Position: Project Accountant

Number of Positions: 1

Location: Jinja Field Office

Contract period: July – December 2024 (Renewable based on the probationary evaluation)

Salary:  1,000,000 -1,300,000 (UGX) 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Good Neighbors International Uganda is looking for a project accountant to provide technical expertise and leadership skills in Finance and Administration. The project accountant will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Support to the operation
  • Enforce financial controls, processes, and procedures
  • Monitor daily communications and answer any queries.
  • Act as a liaison for financial management and system development in consultation with the finance manager and GNIUG management.
  • Coordinate financial support, accounting processes, and service delivery.
  • Monitor transactions
  • Review and monitor all the payments at all levels
  • Ensure adequate budget review before signing payment vouchers
  • Ensure proper cash disbursement, vouchers, cash receipts are accurately and timely completed for authorization before posting is made.
  • Reconcile general ledger.

Treasury and banking

  • Ensure cheque books are properly handled and keep the photocopies.
  • Establish control cash registers or logs where need be.
  • Review and coordinate bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare payment transfers

Grants and compliances

  • Consolidate and submit monthly financial reports in accordance with donor requirements.
  • Analyze financial reports and provide recommendations to GNIUG management on planning.

Documentation

  • Consolidate and submit monthly financial report in accordance with donor requirements.
  • Preparation and posting of journals.
  • Prepare monthly reports to the country director
  • Liaise with local offices to collect data in a timely manner.
  • As and when required, prepare financial report to the management.
  • Prepare project cash flow.
  • Verify the suppliers, third party providers, clients and file proper documentations including receipts.
  • Perform any other tasks in accordance to the project expectations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting and Finance or other related fields.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in the Accounting and Finance.
  • Able to perform work independently in own field of specialization, equipped with knowledge and experience of multiple disciplines.
  • Previous work experience with international development partners, government, and non-government agencies is the most preferable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in QuickBooks will be an added advantage.

Terms & Conditions

  • Full-time (40 working hours per week) and subject to a six-month probationary period.
  • Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience in line with Good Neighbors’ Project Staff scale.
  • Final Terms and Conditions will be discussed at the contract stage.
