JOB DETAILS:
The Unit is an internationally recognized centre of excellence with dominant research themes in the areas of HIV and emerging infections, vaccines and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. Through a multidisciplinary approach, intersecting basic science, epidemiological research, social-behavioral research, and the conduct of new intervention evaluation studies, the Unit contributes knowledge on changing epidemics and diseases, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK), the Unit formally joined LSHTM on 1st February 2018. The exciting new partnership will boost research capacity into current and emerging health issues in Africa and throughout the world. The Unit is based at the UVRI Entebbe campus with established outposts in Kalungu, Masaka, Wakiso, and Kampala Districts.
Job Purpose:
The position holder will provide efficient programme management. S/he will support different research projects and the operation of a dynamic research Theme, managing projects, people, and data.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Project and data management:
• Coordinate and support the Theme project activities, ensuring they align with Theme goals and deadlines; and,
• Support the organization, storage, and management of data, ensuring its accuracy, security, and accessibility for the research team.
Operational strategy and planning:
• Work with the Theme lead and deputy Theme lead to develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with the research organization objectives and goals; and,
• Collaborate with Theme lead and deputy Theme lead to establish Theme priorities and allocate resources accordingly.
Website and social media management:
• Assist in the preparation, submission, and management of grants by coordinating with team members and providing necessary documentation and information; and,
• Manage grant finances and reporting by liaising with Unit RSO, ensuring compliance with funding agency guidelines.
Diary and Theme meetings management:
• Organize and manage schedules, appointments, and Theme meetings for Theme members; and,
• Prepare agendas, document minutes, and follow up on action items from Theme meetings.
Monitoring and evaluation:
• Lead and/or assist with monitoring and evaluation, supporting data collection and report writing at Theme level, and assisting individual programmes.
