USAID’s Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition Activity (ICAN) is USAID/Uganda’s flagship resilience project, awarded in July 2018. The Activity goal is to enhance the resilience of vulnerable households in the eight districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukungiri (Kigezi sub-region); Gulu, Lamwo, Nwoya (Acholi sub-region); Kaabong and Kotido (Karamoja sub-region). ICAN Activity is majorly aimed at strengthening community resilience in the event of shock and stress with four core purpose areas: Increasing the resilience of Vulnerable households in 8 districts ;increasing economic and diversified livelihood activities; improving food and nutrition security; enhancing inclusive and effective governance processes; Gender and social inclusion being a cross-cutting component.
The development hypothesis is that If USAID ICAN increases the economic opportunities and supports the diversification of vulnerable Ugandans, support the adoption of practices to improve their nutritional status and support the participation in inclusive effective governance processes, then they will achieve sustainable gains in their ability to respond to and recover from shocks and stresses, increasing their resilience.
Since October 2018, USAID ICAN has been implementing activities in 4 selected sub counties of Kotido (Kacheri, Rengen, Nakapelemoru and North Division and 3 in Kaabong (Lolelia, Sidok and Loyoro)
ICAN in partnership with Aridland Development Programme and Diocesan Development Services is currently recruiting for the shortly mentioned positions:
Position one: Programme Coordinator
Number of opportunities available: one(1)
Reports to: The Executive Director
Location: Kotido Field Office
Duration: Maximum of two years
Travel: The role involves substantial field travels of up to 50% within Kotido district.
Role Purpose: Oversee planning and implementation of USAID Activities in Kotido district. .

Key areas of accountability
• Manage and oversee technical planning, provide oversight to implementation, monitoring and reporting on ICAN activities.
• Provide technical leadership to ICAN Activity team in the development and implementation of strategies, standards and activity plans, tools and good practices that enhance the resilience of target communities and beneficiaries.
• Ensure that the Field Officers implement all the approved planned program activities as per the guidance and quality standards set by the regional and Abt Kampala based Technical Leads at USAID – ICAN.
• In consultation with the Regional Team Lead, gather, synthesize and engage the regional and Abt Kampala based technical leads on any needed areas of support among the Field Officers.
• Effectively manage a team of 5 Field Officers (Four FICs and the MELC) to deliver on their contractual obligations. This shall involve approval of the deliverables.
• Engage the team of Field Officers in continuous reflection to inform learning and adaptation. The coordinator shall present emerging lessons and proposed adaptations to ICAN management for consideration and or approval of course corrections.
• Proactively initiate, nurture and strengthen partnerships, applying appropriate partnership concepts, tools and approaches.
• Maintain clear, regular and effective lines of communication with the Regional Team Lead and ICAN management.
• Ensure timely preparation of activity plans and scopes of works to guide implementation of activities. The coordinator shall work in consultation with the Regional Team Lead to secure appropriate approvals for management at ICAN.
• Draft reports and program briefs as shall be required, and in line with the deliverable highlighted below.

Deliverables
The Coordinator shall consolidate reports from the Field Officers and submit the following;
• Weekly updates
• Weekly work plans
• Monthly progress reports
• Quarterly progress report
• Any SOW/Concept paper for contracts or procurement of technical support that will be needed

Qualifications, skills and experience
• The ideal candidate for this vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Agriculture/Agronomy, Agribusiness or Crop Production) or Social
• Sciences (Social work & social Administration or Development Studies,), Education, Nutrition or Environmental Studies.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role at a reputable organization that is active in at least one of the sectors to include; food security, nutrition, education, environment, or markets development. Experience in more than one shall be considered an added advantage.
• Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems.
• Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgment.
• Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with culturally diverse groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to analyse and write technical reports.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate integrated activities
• Proactive, results and service-oriented.
• Possession of a valid riding permit is a must.
• Ability to speak some Nga’karimojong or having worked in Karamoja region will be an added advantage
