Job Summary
The Programme Assistant is a shared role that is responsible for providing monitoring, evaluation and learning, and administrative and programmatic support, contributing to the efficient operation of AWDF’s Impact and Learning and Resourcing Teams. The role entails close collaboration with all the clusters and under the Programme Manager for Impact and Learning, in a matrix management arrangement with the Programme Manager for Resourcing and the Partnership and Philanthropy Department. These teams follow a matrix management and cross-cluster operational model. The role holder will therefore work with and be supported by various clusters, teams and Departments.
Summary of Duties
Strategy Implementation
• Support the implementation of the I&L, Resourcing and FI Project strategies, priorities and approaches in alignment with the new AWDF Strategic Framework
Leadership and people development and management
• Contribute to the effectiveness of the I&L, Resourcing and FI Project Teams
• Contribute to a team culture that values collaboration internally, and cross-functionally, a team of independent thinkers that feel empowered, a team that reflects the feminist principles and values of AWDF
Programme Management
• Contribute to all aspects of the planning and implementation of the priorities of the I&L, Resourcing and FI Project Teams
• Provide administration and logistics support to the I&L, Resourcing and FI project activities
• Support and contribute to collaborative team learning and cross-pollination across the wider Programmes Units
• Provide bilingual support (English and French) to I&L, Resourcing and FI Project Teams
Budget management
• Support effective resource expenditure for the work of the I&L, Resourcing and FI Project Teams
• Follow organisational financial policies
Relationship management
• Support and participate in relevant initiatives, working groups and collaborations to exchange knowledge and advance shared goals to influence the donor community
• Support and contribute to the identification of priorities to accompany, resource and support partners
• Establish and nurture relationships with colleagues as an integral element of communication and relationship management
Programme monitoring and learning
• Assist with the development of data collection instruments, data collection, data quality assurance, collation, analysis and reporting
• Contribute to learning about AWDF’s effectiveness in its support to cohorts of the I&L, Resourcing and FI project partners
• Coordinate aggregation and analysis of information to ensure the Partnerships and Philanthropy Department delivers on internal and external reporting requirements (Board, donor, accountability, project reports etc.)
Other
• The role holder will from time to time be required to carry out any other duties that are within the scope of the job
Essential Knowledge and Experience
• Demonstrated values and principles of feminist and gender justice development and organising in Africa
• Demonstrated knowledge of gender justice and right-based programmes in Africa
• Experience working collaboratively in project teams on gender justice focus areas in Africa
• Experience working in or with different types of entities and movements (i.e. individual activists, emergent and non-traditional collectives, CBOs, NGOs and/or strategic implementing partners)
• Experience in African and feminist organisational and movement strengthening, working with African women and feminist organisations, an in-depth knowledge of African feminist and women’s rights priorities, approaches, issues and concerns
• Ability to research and provide background information to the respective teams
• Proven data analysis skills (Quantitative and Qualitative) for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite programmes i.e. Excel/Sheets, Word/Doc, PowerPoint/Slides, and experience working with information systems
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English and French
• Programme administration, planning, organising and coordination skills
• Experience in budget monitoring
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to prioritise multiple demanding tasks with competing deadlines
• A proactive team player, who can take initiative and problem-solve creatively
• Strong interpersonal skills, high levels of personal integrity and professional credibility and experience in building strong and credible relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to exercise professional judgement and to support and implement difficult decisions
• Work cooperatively with others to overcome conflict and build towards a common goal
• Excellent IT and digital communication skills
Qualifications
• A degree in gender studies or related discipline and at least 3 years of professional experience in a similar role. Formal qualifications which include research methods - qualitative and quantitative - or Monitoring and Evaluation will be an advantage
• Experience in providing bilingual (English and French) administrative and programmatic support
