King Ceasor University (KCU) is a chartered private university located in Bunga, Kampala, committed to academic excellence, innovation, research, and quality assurance in higher education.

The University invites applications from suitably qualified and accomplished individuals for the position of Professor – Nursing. The successful candidate will demonstrate distinguished academic leadership, excellence in nursing education, research, postgraduate supervision, scholarly publication, innovation, and community engagement while contributing to the University's vision of becoming a centre of excellence in health sciences education, research and professional practice.

Responsibilities or duties

The Professor – Nursing shall report to the Dean, School of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences, and shall:

• Provide strategic academic and professional leadership in nursing education, research, innovation and community engagement.
• Lead the planning, development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes.
• Promote excellence in nursing research, scholarly publication, postgraduate supervision and evidence-based nursing practice.
• Mentor academic staff, researchers and postgraduate students while strengthening institutional research capacity.
• Advise the University on matters relating to nursing education, research, healthcare policy and professional practice.
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Dean or University Council.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide strategic leadership in nursing education, clinical practice, research, innovation and community engagement; strengthen postgraduate education and supervision; promote excellence in scholarly publication and resource mobilisation; foster national and international collaborations; and contribute to advancing healthcare, nursing science and institutional development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide strategic leadership in the planning, development and continuous improvement of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes.
• Lead curriculum design, review and implementation to ensure programmes comply with national, regional and international accreditation standards.
• Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, simulation-based learning, clinical instruction and postgraduate teaching.
• Coordinate and supervise clinical education in affiliated hospitals and healthcare institutions.
• Promote evidence-based nursing practice, patient-centred care, ethical practice and professional accountability.
• Lead high-quality nursing, public health and interdisciplinary research addressing national and global healthcare priorities.
• Publish scholarly work in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and contribute to books, book chapters and other scholarly outputs.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and postgraduate research at Master's and PhD levels.
• Mentor academic staff, postgraduate students and early-career researchers in teaching, research, publication, grant writing and professional development.
• Lead programme accreditation, curriculum review and institutional quality assurance initiatives.
• Promote simulation-based education, digital health technologies and innovative approaches to nursing education.
• Secure competitive research funding and coordinate externally funded research projects.
• Establish and strengthen collaborations with hospitals, nursing schools, professional councils, government agencies, development partners and international universities.
• Provide leadership in departmental, School and University governance through committees, academic boards and strategic planning.
• Provide expert consultancy and professional advisory services in nursing, healthcare policy and health systems strengthening.
• Lead community health outreach programmes, maternal and child health initiatives, primary healthcare interventions and continuing professional education.
• Promote ethical conduct, professionalism, academic integrity and institutional excellence.
• Prepare strategic academic, research and administrative reports.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the University  Management.

Qualifications or requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold an earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Nursing or a relevant nursing discipline from a recognised university.
• Demonstrate distinguished academic leadership, excellence in nursing education, research, postgraduate supervision and scholarly publication.
• Possess an outstanding record of professional service, curriculum development and institutional leadership.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

• An earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Nursing or a recognised nursing discipline.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registration and a valid practising licence with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council or an equivalent recognised professional regulatory body.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive university teaching, research and professional nursing experience, with substantial experience at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education.
• A distinguished record of at least eight (8) peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science or equivalent databases.
• Successfully supervised at least seven (7) postgraduate students to completion, including at least two (2) PhD candidates.

The Professor – Nursing shall hold office in accordance with the University's Terms and Conditions of Service and subject to satisfactory performance.
