King Ceasor University (KCU) is a chartered private university located in Bunga, Kampala, committed to academic excellence, innovation, research, and quality assurance in higher education. The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced applicants for the position of Professor -- Law. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in legal education, teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, academic leadership, scholarly publication, innovation, and community engagement.

Responsibilities or duties

The Professor -- Law shall report to the Head of Department and shall:

• Provide strategic academic and intellectual leadership in teaching, advanced legal research, mentorship and scholarly contribution within the Department of Law.
• Lead the design and delivery of advanced undergraduate and postgraduate legal education programmes, including PhD-level supervision.
• Drive excellence in research, scholarly publication and postgraduate supervision, and secure external research funding for the Department and University.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-career academic staff, and guide policy and strategic direction within the Department, Faculty and University.
• Provide senior academic leadership through governance roles (e.g., Head of Department, Dean, Director) and represent the University's legal scholarship nationally and internationally.
• Perform such other duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department, Dean or University  Management.

Purpose of the Job

To provide distinguished academic and intellectual leadership in law through sustained excellence in teaching, advanced research and postgraduate supervision at PhD level; drive innovation, scholarly publication and grant income; shape academic policy and strategic direction within the Department, Faculty and University; and represent the University's legal scholarship nationally and internationally.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee academic programmes in law within the Department or Faculty.
• Mentor and support junior and mid-career academic staff in teaching, research and professional development.
• Promote academic excellence and uphold institutional quality assurance standards across the Department.
• Contribute to strategic planning and policy development at the Faculty or University level.
• Design and deliver advanced-level undergraduate and postgraduate law courses.
• Ensure academic content is up to date, evidence-based and aligned with national and international legal and regulatory standards.
• Use innovative and inclusive teaching methodologies, including case-based and clinical legal education, to improve learning outcomes.
• Supervise dissertations, theses and capstone research projects at Master's and PhD level.
• Conduct original and high-impact legal, socio-legal and interdisciplinary research addressing national, regional and global priorities.
• Publish regularly in reputable, peer-reviewed national and international law journals and author or edit scholarly books and monographs.
• Lead collaborative and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Secure external funding and manage research grants or consultancy contracts.
• Supervise postgraduate students (Master's and PhD) in law to successful and timely completion.
• Mentor early-career researchers in research design, academic writing, publishing and grant applications.
• Monitor developments in law, policy and legal practice to develop attractive, market-responsive courses and curricula.
• Lead the design, development and periodic review of academic programmes in law.
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, audits and accreditation exercises.
• Ensure academic programmes meet regulatory, professional and industry standards.
• Serve on university committees, academic boards and councils as required.
• Participate in departmental, Faculty and University planning and policy implementation.
• Take on senior leadership roles (e.g., Head of Department, Dean, Director) when appointed.
• Provide expert legal knowledge and services to the community, industry or government through public lectures, consultancy or advisory roles.

Qualifications or requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold an earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Law or a relevant legal discipline from a recognised university.
• Demonstrate distinguished, sustained excellence in university teaching, legal research, PhD-level supervision and academic leadership.
• Possess a distinguished record of scholarly publication, curriculum development, academic leadership and national/international recognition.

Academic Qualifications and Experience

• An earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Law or a relevant legal discipline from a recognised university.
• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honours) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent professional legal training from a recognised institution.
• Enrolment as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda or an equivalent recognised professional legal body will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of seven (7 ) years of progressive university teaching, research and academic leadership experience, including at least four (3) years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent in a recognised higher education institution.
• Sustained and distinguished excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate legal teaching and supervision.
• A demonstrated record of at least eight (8 ) peer-reviewed publications, including at least one (1) authored or edited scholarly book or monograph, in reputable, indexed outlets.
• Successfully supervised at least seven (7) postgraduate students to completion, including (2) candidates at PhD level.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package in accordance with King Ceasor University's terms and conditions of service.

Tenure

The Professor -- Law shall hold office in accordance with the University's terms and conditions of service and subject to satisfactory performance.
