Background information about the job or company:

The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner Animal Nutrition for performing the following duties:-

Responsibilities or duties:

• Giving advice on the appropriate pastures for different rangelands;
• Improving on the sustainable utilization of the rangelands;
• Offering technical advice on water installations in the rangelands;
• Planning use of rangelands reclaimed from vectors;
• Enforcing regulation that govern the use of rangelands;
• Planning and designing appropriate systems for sustainable use of rangelands by pastoral communities;
• Reinstating the required status in the degraded areas;
• Advising on fodder, trees and legumes to be introduced or conserved in the rangeland areas;
• Participating in training programmes on animal nutrition and land range management;
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

• Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (Animal Production Science/Pasture Agronomy option); or Animal Production Technology and Management (BAPTM); or Veterinary Medicine plus a Masters Degree in any of the above fields from a recognized University/Institution. Applicants should be registered with a relevant professional body in case of Veterinary Medicine.

Experience needed:

Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years relevant working experience as an Agricultural Officer; or Veterinary Officer, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Veterinary Officer/Inspector; or Agricultural Officer in Government.
