The African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD) is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit making NGO with Country Program Offices in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Niger, Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. AIRD’s objective is to offer operational support, including but not limited to supply chain, logistics, construction, infrastructure, environment, livelihoods and WASH in partnership with relief and development organizations that focus on disaster-affected and development-oriented areas. AIRD delivers for and through partners including but not limited to UN Agencies, international and national donor organizations and governments
Job Summary: The objective of this post is to ensure that the pharmaceutical warehouse operates efficiently, complies with regulations, and supports the donor’s healthcare system’s needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain optimal stock levels to prevent stockouts or overstocking.
- Ensure accurate inventory records using inventory management systems.
- Perform regular stock audits to reconcile physical and system records.
- Ensure all operations comply with local and international pharmaceutical regulations (e.g., WHO, or National Drug Authority).
- Maintain proper documentation for all transactions, including goods received notes, delivery notes etc.
- Adhere to proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity) as specified for different drug categories.
- Implement procedures for verifying the quality and authenticity of drugs received from suppliers.
- Monitor expiry dates and ensure timely removal of expired or near-expiry products.
- Ensure proper handling and storage to maintain drug efficacy and safety.
- Accurately and promptly process orders from healthcare facilities, pharmacies, or other clients.
- Minimize errors in picking, packing, and labelling drugs for distribution.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery.
- Reduce wastage through efficient inventory turnover and management of near-expiry drugs.
- Work effectively with warehouse staff, procurement officers, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Train staff on safe drug handling, storage protocols, and inventory management systems.
- Address key stakeholders’ inquiries and resolve complaints regarding orders or product quality.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular reports on inventory levels, stock movements, and performance metrics.
- Analyse trends to forecast demand and plan procurement accordingly.
- Identify and implement improvements in warehouse workflows and systems.
- Stay updated on best practices in pharmaceutical warehousing and supply chain management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm).
- Pharmacist practicing License
- At least 5 years working experience in pharmaceutical supply chain or warehousing
- A certification in warehouse or supply chain management is an added advantage.

- Ability to monitor stock levels, ensure proper storage conditions and prevent drug wastage.
- High level of honesty and Integrity
- Attention to detail and accuracy ensuring that all pharmaceutical products are correctly labelled, stored, and handled to maintain their integrity
- Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spread sheet and database packages
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
