Job Overview

Alipata Limited, an innovative e-commerce platform, is seeking a visionary and dynamic Operations Officer to lead the frontline of business operations, sales, marketing, and general operations. The Operations Officer will be instrumental in executing Alipata’s ambitious operational plan, including achieving consistent monthly revenue of 50M UGX within six months and expanding across East Africa and Africa within two years. The Operations officer will establish and refine business structures, enhance logistics operations, and drive sales growth, ensuring Alipata's competitive edge in the e-commerce space. This position requires a forward-thinking leader with strategic acumen, a hands-on approach, and the ability to create synergies across departments such as sales, marketing, logistics, and finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations Leadership: Establish and oversee the operational framework, ensuring a streamlined, efficient approach to daily business activities, including logistics, customer service, and product delivery.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute Alipata’s expansion strategy, including market entry tactics, brand positioning, and operational routes, with a focus on first- mover advantage in new regions.
  • Sales and Marketing: Lead sales and marketing efforts to drive customer acquisition and retention. Implement innovative digital marketing and virtual trade shows to enhance brand visibility and revenue growth.
  • Logistics & Distribution: Optimize logistics and delivery systems by setting up distribution routes to connect major cities in Uganda and across East Africa. Ensure 95% on-time delivery to support customer satisfaction.
  • B2B and Virtual Trade Shows: Lead the organization of quarterly virtual trade shows and foster B2B relationships to expand Alipata’s service offering and reach across Africa, with a target of 500 businesses participating in each event.

Technology Integration:

  • Oversee the integration of e-commerce features, including:
  • Logistics management system integration
  • Alipata purchasing agents
  • Affiliation marketing
  • Advertising systems
  • Point-of-sale (POS) solutions
  • Ensure a seamless experience for customers and businesses through these technologies.
  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing operations team, focusing on key departments: sales, marketing, logistics, and finance.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budget planning and cash flow to achieve profitability targets within two years. Implement transparent accounting practices and financial tracking systems.
  • Performance Monitoring: Utilize data-driven insights to track KPIs such as gross merchandise value (GMV), customer acquisition, logistics efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Implement continuous improvement measures based on performance metrics.
  • Brand Building: Enhance brand awareness through targeted campaigns, social media, and customer engagement initiatives, including weekly promotional posts and strategic partnerships.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of experimentation and refinement, continuously evolving Alipata’s business model for profitability and growth.

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree: In Business Administration, Operations Management, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree (preferred): MBA or specialization in e-commerce, logistics, or strategic management.
  • Professional Certifications: Project management (e.g., PMP) or supply chain management certifications are an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic Leadership: Proven experience in leading business operations, with the ability to create and execute strategies for market entry and expansion.
  • Sales & Marketing Expertise: Strong understanding of e-commerce growth levers, customer acquisition strategies, and digital marketing.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Expertise in designing and optimizing supply chains for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and B2B services.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in e-commerce platforms, CRM tools, data analytics, and integrating digital solutions to drive business efficiency.
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to manage budgets, ensure profitability, and oversee transparent financial reporting.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster relationships with key stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and partners.
  • Adaptability: Agile and adaptable in responding to dynamic market needs and operational challenges in the African e-commerce landscape.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Achieve a monthly gross merchandise value (GMV) of 50M UGX within six months.
  • Ensure 95% on-time delivery across distribution routes.
  • Reach a minimum customer acquisition rate of 1,000 new registrations monthly.
  • Execute four virtual trade shows annually with at least 500 businesses participating in each.
  • Achieve a 4.5-star customer satisfaction rating and maintain high engagement rates across social media and virtual platforms.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: 500,000 - 1,000,000 UGX basic
  • Performance Bonus: 5-10% of the monthly net profit generated
