JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Occupational Therapist will assess, treat, and provide follow-up for children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SB/H) in Gulu and neighboring districts. The successful candidate will work at the Rehabilitation Center at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
Specific Responsibilities
• Assessment & Treatment:
o Identify and assess children with SB/H in collaboration with physiotherapists and social workers.
o Develop treatment plans and patient files.
o Provide treatment and train parents/children in clean intermittent catheterization and bowel management.
• Clinic Support:
o Mobilize and assist in bi-monthly CURE clinic visits.
o Follow up on children referred to CURE Hospital.
o Maintain relations with partners involved in SB/H management.
• Referral & Outreach:
o Refer children for assistive devices and educational support.
o Refer parents for Income Generating Activity (IGA) programs.
o Conduct community outreach to sensitize leaders, health workers, and communities.
o Identify new clients and conduct home visits for children missing clinic appointments.
• Parental Support:
o Set up and facilitate monthly meetings for the Parents Support Group (PSG).
o Train parents in critical areas of care and management.
• Monitoring & Reporting:
o Monitor treatment outcomes and report to colleagues and the Programme Manager.
Job Requirements
• Educational Background:
o Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of experience working with children with physical disabilities.
• Skills:
o Ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
o Proficiency in basic computer skills.
o Fluency in English (oral and written).
