Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO Country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. This position is located in Kampala, Uganda.
Reporting Lines
The National One Health Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Uganda, and under the direct supervision of the ECTAD Country Team Leader (CTL) at FAO Uganda and in close collaboration with the ECTAD OH Coordinator in Nairobi, FAO KE and other programme and administrative staff.

Tasks and responsibilities:
The National One Health Specialist will:
• Advocate for results of National Bridging Workshop (NBW) and coordination of new NBWs in Uganda.
• Ensure that a regular dialogue is maintained between the sectors to catalyse the implementation of joint activities listed in the NBW roadmap.
• Coordinate and lead workshops to foster the development and implementation of joint national roadmaps to strengthen legislative and policy frameworks at the human-animal interface in Uganda.
• Contribute to the annual programme review of measurable outcomes, recommendations, and follow-on activities to address ongoing and future capacity needs.
• Provide inputs to the standardized methodology for sub-national NBWs to be implemented at the regional/provincial level in Uganda.
• Organize a meeting with relevant national stakeholders to evaluate the results of the survey, produce a final report and make recommendations to inform decision-making and best practices.
• Share, collaborate and ensure the involvement of key animal health sector/ veterinary players in NBWs, national road map planning and implementation, and training programmes/modules.
• Prepare, coordinate and/or participate in conferences, technical meetings and workshops related to the project.
• Organization of NBW in Uganda and co-facilitates the workshop.
• Contribute to the drafting of relevant documents, workshop and meeting reports, articles, website content and other technical and communication information materials to promote engagement in, and implementation of NBWs and follow-up activities.
• Plan and implement specific activities and deliverables in a timely fashion to ensure that the project delivers outputs on time and within scope according to donor requirements.
• Participate in the preparation of background documents and periodic progress reports.
• Maintain regular communication with the FAO-WHO-OIE country project team and in particular with the One Health Coordinator Africa, FAO headquarters project colleagues regarding the implementation and progress of the activities.
• Produces end of assignment report including all the activities implemented and designations and contact details of key stakeholders in the country.
• Any other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced University Degree in veterinary or biological sciences and relevant post-graduate training or experience in epidemiology, public health, risk assessment or in a discipline relevant to the management;
At least 5 years of proven experience in the management and implementation of One Health related projects with multidisciplinary teams from animal and public health sectors;
• Excellent English, written and oral communication skills.
• A working Knowledge of either French or Spanish would be of added advantage.
• Nationality of Uganda.

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
• Experience liaising and working with WHO and OIE at the country and regional level will be considered as an asset;
• Extent and relevance of experience working in One Health matters in Africa;
• High level of technical knowledge on priority zoonotic diseases in the country and available policy interventions;
• Extent and relevance of experience at international level;
• Ability to write briefs and reports;
• Ability to mobilize resources;
• Ability to work under pressure and meat deadlines;
• Familiarity with FAO policies and programmes and systems is desirable.
