School Information:
7Hills is a not for profit school and follows the innovative IMYC Curriculum (year 7-9), the IGCSEs for years 10-11 and A-levels for years 12-13. 7Hills is seeking a teacher who will be fully involved in every aspect of school life, to inspire students to reach their full potential by fostering curiosity and an interest in learning. This is an exciting role for someone who wishes to contribute to the development of an International Secondary School within a supportive teaching staff with strong links to parents and the local community.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor Degree in relevant subject from a recognized institution.
• Recognised teaching qualification (preferably degree or postgraduate qualification).

 

 

• Preferably two or more years teaching experience at an appropriate level.

 

 

• Experience in an international school with the IBDP, IGCSE and/or A-level programmes will be an added advantage.
• Evidence of previous successful teaching experience
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development, curriculum development, effective instructional strategies, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate active listening skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to use technology for word processing, data management and communications.

Teaching and Learning Expectations:
• Teaching all areas of the appropriate curriculum.
• Taking responsibility for the progress of each student.
• Organising classroom/learning resources to create a positive learning environment.
• Planning, preparing and presenting lessons that are differentiated and will meet the educational needs of the ability range within their class.
• Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative and creative approaches to teaching and learning.
• Maintaining discipline in a positive way.
• Assessing, grading and giving feedback to facilitate positive pupil development.
• Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development.
• Providing feedback to parents, either via email, in private meetings, or at parents' evenings.
• Coordinating resources and out-of-class activities.
• Supporting specialist colleagues (Counsellors, Specialists, Learning Support) to ensure student development and growth.
• Working with Heads of Department (HODs) and Coordinators to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of the curriculum.
• Staying up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum.
• Taking part in school events and activities that can be run at weekends or evenings.
• Providing at least one after school activity a week.
• Participate in regular staff meetings, school assemblies and training. Conduct parent teacher conferences and communicate with parents regarding student progress and support as needed.
• Undergo regular observations and participate in regular in-school training as part of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Use ICT systems to enable efficient and effective delivery of your role.
• Cooperate with the Board and Administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
• Additional activities and responsibilities within the scope of the teacher may be assigned by the Head of School.

Other duties and expectations:
General:
• Carry out normal teaching duties, including homework, testing etc.
• Mark work and keep records of student progress in a timely manner.
• Inform parents of any academic or disciplinary difficulties with students.
• Plan, organise and participate in field trips, both day and residential.
• Supervise various student events as required; sporting events, proms, graduations, carnivals, and other social events where students are involved.
• Be available for cover duty as requested.
Daily:
• Sign in by 07:30 hours and be in your classroom for student/parent contact.
• Read emails/whatsapp messages to stay informed of daily events.
• Carry out Break and Lunch time duties as assigned.
• Carry out Homeroom duties as assigned.
Weekly:
• Carry out at least one afternoon activity per week.
• Attend internal professional development meetings.
• Attend staff CPD sessions.
Termly:
• Attend Parent-Student-Teacher Teacher conferences.
• Complete reports according to the guidelines.
• Set formative and summative assessments, write reports and set grades as required.
Yearly:
• Update and modify curriculum documents as required, taking into consideration any changes in ability, educational and cultural backgrounds of students or curriculum changes as informed by the external curriculum bodies.
• Provide input for ordering of resources.
• Participate in the continuous Internal Professional Development Programme as led by the HOD.
• Participate in at least one formal (summative) teacher evaluation by the Coordinators and/or Head of School.

Additional details:
• Successful candidates must provide a recent clear criminal background check and two professional references.
• Ugandan candidates - if successful will be asked for a copy of National ID, LC1 letter and Police letter.
• Overseas candidates - if successful 7Hills School will organise Uganda work permit. Candidates will need to avail the required documents for this.
