Purpose of the Job

To assist the Pathologist in performing postmortem.

Person Specifications

1. UCE “O” certificate or its equivalent

2. Possession of a Certificate in Laboratory Science or Practice is an added advantage.

3. Should possess experience of at least one (1) year of laboratory practice in a reputable institution.

4. Should have good interpersonal relationships and skills.

5. Should have integrity, dependable and reliable.

6. Should be registered with a professional organization where required.

Duties and Responsibilities

a. Receiving and dispatching bodies

b. Assisting the Pathologist in autopsy process

c. Reconstructing body and treatment.

d. Keeping the mortuary clean

e. Assisting students and staff in carrying out laboratory experiments.

f. Assisting in the preparation of reagents and specimens for teaching and research.

g. Assisting in the implementation of laboratory standard operating procedures, and quality control standards.

h. Undertaking preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.

i. Assisting in setting up the Laboratory for teaching and research.

j. Guiding students and academic staff on the safe use of chemicals/reagents and laboratory equipment.

k. Maintaining work area clean for the conduct of laboratory analyses and investigations.

Key Outputs

i. Students and academic staff are supported in carrying out post-mortem.

ii. Preparation of samples and specimen supported.

iii. Laboratory standard operating procedures, safety measures and quality control standards implemented.

iv. Preventative maintenance of mortuary equipment undertaken.

v. Mortuary set up for teaching and or research
