JOB DETAILS:
The International institute of Tropical Agriculture (ITA), is an autonomous not-for-profit research institution, established in 1967 with headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria, that generates agricultural innovations to meet Africa's most pressing challenges of hunger, mainutrition, poverty, and natural resource degradation We Work with various partners across sub-Saharan Africa, to improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, increase employment, and preserve natural resource integrity IITA is a member of the CGIAR, a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secured future ITA is impartial, neutral, and non-political.
ITA seeks suitable applicants for the position below at the institute's offices at Sendusu - Namulonge in Uganda
Duration: 2 years, renewable depending on performance and availability of funds
Duties/responsibilities:
• Coordinate the genotyping projects (low-, mid- and high- density genotyping) of the banana team across the stations (Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria)
• Coordinate and supervise the molecular lab research assistants, research technicians, casuals, interns, and trainees
• Liaise with the field research associate for all the phenotype trials linked to molecular banana breeding.
• Work with the data curators to upload the genotyping projects and results to Musabase
• Analyse routine molecular data and produce comprehensive reports on the dat
• Liaise with the lab field technicians from other banana
• stations for an easy flow of communication
• Qualification, skill, experience and competencies required
The ideal candidate must
• Be Ugandan by nationality
• Hold a master's degree in plant Breeding with good mastery of molecular breeding.
• Have a minimum of 1 year experience preferably in a research setting.
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Should be able to follow and troubleshoot protocols.
• Be keen and pay attention to details
• Have good interpersonal relations
