Job Summary

The purpose of this role is to improve the quality of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) services in the region by strengthening the capacity of midwives, health care workers, community health workers and establishment of systems essential for maternal and new born care both at faculty and community level.You will also support the roll-out of the national Nursing and Midwifery Curriculum by coaching tutors in the implementation and advising on additional adolescent friendly service provision and early essential newborn care.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the midwiferycollege, tutors to identifyparticular challengesfacing the institution andsupport sustainablesolutions in solving these.
  • Mentor tutoring in bothclinical and academicteaching settings to improve their ability toplan, deliver and evaluateteaching, in ante natalintrapartum and postnatal care, in a resourcepoor setting.
  • Provide technical capacitybuilding support to healthworkers in conductingultrasound scans (VSCAN)for pregnant women,conducting and supportingdelivery, mentoring,coaching, on various set ofskills related to maternaland new born healthquality of care.
  • Build the strengths andcapacity of clinicalstaff/preceptors instudent training,supervision andassessment ofcompetencies (formative and summative).
  • To build the strength ofclinical staff in themanagement of normaland complicated cases,including in pregnancies,assisted delivery andsurgical births, and carefor premature andextreme premature andsick newborns (Midwivesonly).
  • To act as a role model andadvocate for respectfuland dignified care
  • To mentor staff to adoptbest practices in completemother-child health care,including lactation andfamily planning and atcommunity level
  • Work with academic andclinical staff to preparelesson plans thatencourage active,participatory learning forstudent midwives
  • Provide coaching andfeedback to tutors toencourage individuallearning and reflection ontheir teaching practice.
  • Identify gaps in thepediatric outpatient andinpatient departmentwhich contribute to poorquality care and treatmentand develop action planaccordingly.
  • Lead and support theimplementation of theaction plan with theobjective to improveneonatal and pediatricspatient care andtreatment to decreaseinstitutional neonatal and child mortality.Conduct baselineassessment and developproposal to establish /strengthen neonatalintensive care unit incollaboration with thehospital management,when needed.

Job Requirements

Required education: Diploma, Associate's degree
Required relevant work experience: 5 years
